Why don't you want to go aio by the way?Hi All,
Could somebody advise on a reasonably cheap cooler for my 5800x3d? I can’t seem to find much info about this anywhere. I don’t really want to go the aio route but any recommendations will be a great help.
Thanks.
The noise, worried about it leaking and there more expensive. Are they easy to fit?Why don't you want to go aio by the way?
That’s some fan! I think I’d be pretty close to my memory with that alsoI have the Noctua NH-U14S with dual fan (in push-pull) I can highly recommend it if you can find one for sale. It's currently using a low noise adapter and the 3 Noctua case fans are locked at 42%
I looked at the D15 years ago and it looked too big for my case at the time and/or might have caused issues with memory clearance. As you can see, the front cpu far sits just behind (~1cm) the RAM
Also had an AIO years ago but it was one of the first (Corsair H50 I think it was) the pump on that thing was so loud and annoying that I went back to air not long after buying it
Here's my setup with the 5800X3D
Would that be sufficient do you think? D15 is a little too much with my budget, which is about up to £50. I play mostly fs2020 which is cpu intensive.Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
It's $35 (in the US)and is what I would use if I were looking to spend as little as possible on a cooler for this CPU and still get decent cooling.
Keep in mind that the heat density of this chip makes it a challange for just about any cooler under all-core workloads. It reached 90c in R23 under my 280mm AIO. It just took longer to get there. (Using a Noctua NH-D15S now)
Yes. It's a great cooler for the money.Would that be sufficient do you think? D15 is a little too much with my budget, which is about up to £50. I play mostly fs2020 which is cpu intensive.
Fairly easy and I've not heard of them leaking, they are sealed units generally. The noise, worried about it leaking and there more expensive. Are they easy to fit?
Ok, great that helps mate. It's a 120W chip. Pretty much any cooler is fine.
If you want a cooler that will stop it immediately going to 90C when running Prime95 then you will be spending a lot of money.
A Hyper 212 or Freezer 34 is enough to keep it at 80C when running Cinebench r23. In games it will be locked to 4.45ghz.
Well documented in the 81 page 5800X3D thread.
It's better than the D15 regardless of price. Mine easily tames my 7700xWould that be sufficient do you think? D15 is a little too much with my budget, which is about up to £50. I play mostly fs2020 which is cpu intensive.

Yes best to run at stock, doesnt use much power anyway.Well documented in the 81 page 5800X3D thread.
Undervolting, either with PBO2 or Kombo strike / other manufacturer bios option will lower temps might also cause issues.
I noticed increased stuttering in Flight sim 2020 when undervolting. Without the undervolt, it was more smooth.
Mine was £42 on Amazon prime. It came next day. I used to run a h60 for my 4790k in an ITX case. I don't imagine it gets anywhere near a peerless assassin, costs more and they can fail and ruin your PC.The only problem is finding one in the uk.
There is no uk supplier so you have shop ebay/amazon... but then you end up pay 50+
At that price buy an AIO
