5820k 4.5 vs 4.7 6700k

Hot and noisy? They run, if anything, cooler than the 4 core i7's as they have a soldered heat spreader.

My 5820k runs cooler than my 3770k did.

Ok they might use a bit more power under load if you are loading all the cores but i think generally your apprehensions are unfounded.

It wouldn't have been unreasonable to assume that a 6 core CPU would be hotter, but that's welcome info and good to know!

What about the mini itx situation on x99?

Under similar load and clocks the 5820k will use more power and create more overall heat as its a six core CPU on a larger design node.

The 6700k may have a higher heat per unit of surface area however as its a tiny die (similar to some recent i3's!) compared to haswell -e and so core temps may not be any better and depending on cooling used could be worse due to the inferior thermal solution under the ihs (soldered vs cheap old Tim)

Madness swapping an existing 5820k for a 6700k imo.
By far the biggest gains to be made to your system for gaming, would be to upgrade your graphics card.
It's a 950?
Why not just upgrade that and save a bundle on a new mobo and cpu, which won't offer you more than your existing one (except in single threaded tasks, but then not enough to make the switch)
You're unlikely to to find yourself in the future thinking 'Damn, I wish I had fewer cores'

Coy was stable at 4.6 1.27v but just found out today why it kept BSOD suddenly even at stock due to faulty ram confirmed by meme test guess I'll keep my 5820k @ 4.6ghz. Picked up a 780 lightning as well today from ocuk so happy

I'm not really sure why we are talking about this, you've got a nice 6 core 5820K, a very nice cpu, be happy man :)

If you want to scratch the upgrade itch, why don't you upgrade that 950 Strix ?

Lol, sounds a bit like myself. Since X58 alone, (of which i had two, and still keep one) in just under 3 years ive been through the following.

i5 3570k
i7 3770k
i7 4770k
x2 17 4790k
i7 5820k

Ive made a promise that this one will last me a while.:)

IMAO setter, not if the Donkeys come in or the Lottery.:p
