Hi there im currently in process of overclocking my 5820k

before settings here is the rest of my system

Asus X99 delux
HyperX Xmp Predator series 3000mhz 16GB
EVGA 1000W Super nova
H110 Replaced stock paste with GELID GC Extreme.

Don't think anything else is of importance for cpu overclocking but let me know if you need any more info.

Settings currently.

Core voltage : 1.33
Multiplier x 38
BClock 126.36
ram is on XMP 3000mhz profile 1.35v

Everything else has been left at stock / auto

I have tried to turn off turbo mode as i know on other platforms it helped with stability in some cases. however when i try to turn it off on this system it will revert my multiplier back to auto for some reason. So that is something i would like to fix really. The system has been stable through game play ect. In games temps don't push over 60.

Is there anything to change here, i know changing the base clock slightly can alter other things but it got me to 4.8ghz with the small increase. would you recommend i revert this?

Ok i found some instability's at these settings after a few more hours of gaming in Arma 3.

I have put my Base Clock back to 125 and have also changed my voltage to 1.345

temps roughly the same within the margin of error

Core speed now = 4750.00 Mhz

If it's only hitting 68 you should up it further mate. Keep going. I have been using a 2600k for the past 4 years and as I said im upgrading within weeks. I have had this 2600k at 4.8ghz using a massive 1.48v !! But temps are fine and always been stable.

So, hitting a little itch here.

System is stable ( i lowered clock down to 4.5 for now to find out what's causing this to happen )

As you can see in windows the system is stable and happy to run at the speeds it is set at.

however every once in a while when i boot it wont come on, i hold the power button to turn it off, press it again and it does not boot however when i press the power button it instantly shuts off, on the next attempt to boot it tells me over clocking failed press f1 to continue to bios. As soon as i get into the bios i press f10 to save and continue, and then boot and it all works faultlessly from then on.

any idea what may be causing this.

EDIT : Ram is HyperX XMP Predator Series 16GB (4x 4GB) 3000MHz CL15 DDR4 DIMM Memory Modul

Yeah its a mem training issue for sure.

Try sligthtly higher mem volts and SA 1.2 SA maybe. Dial back BCLK to 125.

Also make sure primary timings are set correctly in bios.

Thanks for the help mate,

Have changed system agent to 1.185 seing as it was actually only set to 1.03

ram ive pushed a tiny bit from 1.36 to 1.37 will keep going slow with it to see if it helps.

Is there a point in voltages recommended to stop on ram with DDR4?

Cheers,

Harry

EDIT : So after a few more attempts it's still going haywire.

really bugging me now so i reset a lot of bios settings as a fresh start maybe and i was still getting the overclocking failed :(.

Have added a few photos of main bios settings that i currently have. As i said i have reset a lot of these now including ram voltages ect.

once in windows everything runs just fine as you can see from the above stability test.

SA voltage isn't linear, training can be tricky and more can be just as bad as less. Start with 1.05v and work up till 1.15v till the problem stops persisting. You'll just have to soak changes till you're able to stop reproducing the training failures

ive given up on the 125 strap. No matter what settings i try i just cant even get the system to boot even at sensible 29x multi and ram at stock.

Same with the XMP. Just will not boot at all.

Yet been running days all fine at 46 x 100.

I had a brief play with 125 strap a while back on mine - but same problems that you describe - gave up in the end and stuck with 100 strap.
