So I posted yesterday about my CPU temp being a bit high while in BIOS (I hadn't installed an OS at that point so I couldn't get much further.)
It was around 41degrees, but I was told that in BIOS the CPU doesn't idle and is actually quite busy - so heat was to be expected.
Today I installed the OS and I've had CoreTemp64 running - It's been pretty idle, a bit of web surfing etc, nothing massively stressy for my CPUs and the cores seem to be around 32degrees, but with maxes reaching up again to the early 40s.
Surely that's a bit hot??
I don't know exactly what the ambient temps in my room are. I'm in north london and this disappointing latish summer is probably creating ambient temps of around 23/24. (I might by a thermometer tomorrow so I can be sure).
But honestly don't those CPU temps seem a little high?
Thoughts welcome. :)
Thanks.

Ha! I don't know! But I do seem to have a possibly slightly irrational bee in my bonnet about it!
I think it was because I felt I messed up the D15S CPU cooler installation (when screwing it in, the top side was momentarily much lower than the bottom side - until I equalised things by screwing in the bottom screw more - and so I imagined all the Thermal paste being squeezed/spread unevenly towards the bottom of the CPU heatspreader.)
I suppose I could check and reapply, but the Thermalpaste/Cooler installation is my absolute least favourite part of a build and I don't really want to go there again unless it's essential.
But if you really reckon these temps are ok, then I'll be content.
Here's a pic I grabbed just now while browsing and typing in this forum. This is at stock speed btw.

What do you think?

Edit - Hmm. That pic hasn't come out has it?

Hmm. I've made no such tweaks. This is stock. Everything is in it's out of the box setting.
I just ran Aida64 (only for 20 mins) and after about 15 mins the temps plateaued at between 55-57 degrees.

Without an overclock mine idled at a max of 30 degrees with a corsair gtx h100i. I overclocked it to 4.5 with 1.295 volts and it now idles about 33 degrees.

Given that, FightingFirst, would you say my temps are a bit high? I know it's on air, but a Noctua D15s is one of the best air coolers available.

Im no expert but given that yours averages when idle are between mid 30's and early 40's you should be ok. Plus it wasnt overheating when running Aida64 so it should be ok. If you want you could reapply the thermal paste but your chip doesnt seem to be overheating.

Your temps are perfectly fine ! No issue here at all ! When I'm @ stock @ 45c load on a custom loop & 360mm rad . Use ya machine , stop worrying . Water peaks after around 15 mins . Air peaks near instantly . Temps are banging go play
