Hey everyone,

My brother has caved in and bought a 5850 and was wondering how much his old cpu will bottleneck the card?

The processor is a 5200+ dual core athlon 2.7ghz.

Thanks for any info!

bottleneck bottleneck bottleneck bottleneck bottleneck bottleneck bottleneck :D sorry bored :p by quite a lot to be honest

Err would'nt the PCI Express slot on a motherboard capable of taking that CPU (AM1/AM2?) also be one of the lower bandwidth ones?

Double bottle?

I got a stupidly big bottle neck from my old 4200+ with my 280, now it pretty much runs everything at 1920x1200.. Ide expect the same to apply here.

Ouch, didn't think it would be that big of a bottle neck and i had forgotten about the pci express bottle neck aswell!

The motherboard is a MSI K9N SLI Platinum AM2, so i tihnk it uses pci express 1.0 at 16x.

I'll get him to order a crosshair III, 965BE and some ram, would you guys care to recommend some decent ram for that cpu and motherboard?

Thanks a lot for the help!

Thanks a lot for that mate. Quick question though, for strictly gaming, is the i5 750 much faster than the 965be?

Only reason i ask is that the AM3 platform looks like it may have more life in it than 1156, i would like his motherboard to handle two good CPU upgrades if you know what i mean, like an upgrade to thubian in 2 years time.
