5850 CF seconf monitor not showing

I have two 5850s.

Primary 5850 is connected via DVI to my Asus 24" and HDMI to my AV Reciever for sound only.

Secondary 5850 is connected via DVI to a Dell 22". However Windows 7 64bit won't recognise it. It sees my AV Receiver as a second monitor but not the Dell? What am I doing wrong?

 
If you're using Crossfire then you can only use the outputs from the first card.

You can't use 2 DVI connectors and HDMI together for 3 monitors. You can only use 2 of the 3 at the same time.

I assume the same applies if trying to use 2 DVI connectors for monitors and the HDMI for audio. You'll have to try it and see but I don't think it will work.

I just tried it with taking the HDMI out, so there's 1 DVI in each card but it still won't recognise the second monitor?

On a side note, if I was to use 2 HDMI cables, one going from the primary 5850 to the receiver and then from the receiver to the Asus 24 would that introduce lag in gaming?

As I said you can't use the connections from the second card in Crossfire.

Everything you want to connect has to be connected to the top card.
 
Weve got some of them at work, maybe ill'borrow' a couple ;) just had a thought, im gonna try using the onboard vga and connect that to the second monitor, worth a try i suppose

No HDMI on those cards and you'd still need DisplayPort monitors or active adapters.

You can do that with the cards you've got now.

OK, but quite often onboard graphics are disabled when you use a graphics card.

You'll just have to see.
 
Crossfire will only work with one monitor or an Eyefinity group. This means, all monitors will need to be the same resolution AND grouped together in CCC to merge them into one large super resolution, before you can run them in crossfire.

Looking at your setup, you probably don't want to do this and want to use each monitor independently. I would suggest not running your cards in crossfire when you don't need it, and when you want to game run the cards in crossfire.

I don't want to have to keep disabling and enabling crossfire. Can I not just use one of those display port adapters and put it in the primary 5850, then hook that to my second monitor?
 
It will still be disabled in crossfire mode unless it's in the same Eyefinity group as the primary monitor. But gaming across two monitors is pretty annoying with the bezel in the middle...

I suppose you can try unplugging your AV receiver and then setting up the two monitors in Eyefinity mode, and see how you feel with that. Just make sure both are the same resolution. Both can be connected via DVI if you're just using two monitors.
 
The one in the middle is running in Crossfire Mode, the others on the side are not, all connected to the top card.

Just choose to extend desktop and pick which screen is primary and CF will work on the Primary screen while leaving the other screens still active.

I don't understand how you have them three monitors connected, are they all using DVI?

Yes.
So think you will be using 1xDVI-DVI, 1xHDMI for audio, 1xDP-DVI. You just got to workout which of the DVI ports on the card shares with HDMI port and not use that DVI port for anything.

Got a Sapphire DP to DVI-D and its working now :) Thanks for the help guys.

One problem though, I'm getting micro stuttering in games such as Supper Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. It goes away when I unplug the DP OR I switch from full screen mode to windowed mode. What could be causing this?
