Hey, had my 5850 for around 3 months now and for the past couple weeks ive had random lock ups and when windows starts up random blotches on the screen like bellow. (sorry phone quality)

I replaced it with my old 3450 and havent had a problem since. So I'm fairly sure its died but wanted a second opinion.

Cheers

Need more info such as, is your CPU, RAM or even the graphics card overclocked or has the card been overclocked in the past. A full system spec will help.

Hey sorry nope had no problesm before when it started to do the blotches etc updated to latest drivers and still happend.

Spec;
I5 at 2.67Ghz
msi-p55gd65
ggripjaw 1600
ocz 700w modular
5850 at stock speeds

you could try booting in to safe mode to rule out driver problems. Also make sure your PSU is up to the task..

If those blotches are there as soon as you turn on the pc then it's RMA time..

Yeah as soon as it gets to loading windows it does it 90% of the time. loads into windows fine for a bit then will flash up and freeze or picture will become really fuzzy. Rma then?

If its a 6 year old 400W psu, then probably not.

Stock speed 5850 can draw 150-155W of 12V.

If the psu is only rated for 250W of 12V, and is running something hungry like a q6600 then its a no go.

If the PSU is <3 years old, rated for 300W 12V, and she just has a stock speed core 2 duo, then you arnt going to have too much of a problem for a quick test.
