Right I've asked about this problem before but I still have found no solution.

I purchased a 5850 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-SP this one to be precise.

It worked fine for a couple months and then ramdomly started locking up and random blotches appearing on the screen.

Thinking that the GPU had failed I sent it back to OC and they said that it works fine. Tried it when it was returned to me and could hardley get any display out of it before even getting into windows.

I tried it in both PCIe slots on my mobo and have a 3450 in at the min and that works fine.

Only thing I can think of is the power supply?

Is it possible to be able to power the computer and work fine but not enough to power the 5850 as well? (the 3450 doesn't need any power cables)

Specs are: i5 1156 @2.6 ghz http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-299-IN
4gb ripjaw ram ddr3
p55 gd65
1x500gb samsung f3
1x1.5tb samsung f2
700 w ocz psu http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-032-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1098

Windows 7 64 bit professional.

I'm stumped I dont want to keep sending things to be rma'd and getting charged £20 when they work fine.

Thanks for any help.

Gave it to a friend to try in his last week and just rung him up. He says that it worked fine in his, no problems what so ever.

I know 700 watts is more than enough to run a 5850 even in xfire but maybe its not giving out enough power for the card? something not quite working in it correctly?

Right, got it back the other day and my friend said that it work strait away with no problems what so ever. However I can still not get it to work. It doesn't even work properly in the bios I'm totally confused. Heres a video of it, I'm just pushing the up button on the keyboard.

Any help would be great. it's currently just a £200 paper weight atm :(

Hmm, that definitely doesn't look good. Unfortunately graphics errors aren't always caused by the graphics card, it could be the mobo, the ram or the cpu at fault.

First test it with one stick of ram, if you get the same crap then you'll have to ask your friend if you can test your ram, psu and cpu in his board. If they all come back fine, then it's time to rma your mobo.

the guy has already said he can use the PC fine when he replaces his GFX card with an older 1!
This would mean the monitor is fine and that probably mobo is OK also (but that's a grey area)
The 1st thing I would be looking at is your PSU. Yes it has enough power IF it is not faulty.

As everything works fine when you exchange your graphics card the PSU would be my prime suspect. That said, it could still be mobo (which would be my 2nd suspect)

The only way you can really find out is by eliminating them 1 by 1 until you find the culprit. (this is when old parts and friends and their PC's come in handy)

My moneys on a faulty PSU
