5850 Not Performing As It Should :(

does it? I was thinking in the future of just going i5 route as its just as good as the i7 in games? does the x8/x8 make a large difference in bottlenecking?? or is it just the high end cards?
 
It is fine if you are intending on just running a single graphics card. As soon as you crossfire/sLi your card, then the difference is noticeable.

It's down to the design of the motherboards. I would still go down the i7 route if you are keen on gaming. i5 are designed with value in mind to enable intel to capture the main stream market and challenge AMD on their end of the market
 
just remember with that chip you could go upto 4ghz but just be aware if you are doing competitions etc you might want to sit at say 3.4 or 3.6 just to make sure its stable


but with a D0 stepping i7 it'll be fine having it at 4ghz or even 4.2 for everyday use.

mine has sat happily at 4.2 since day one and that was last April
