5850 not that fast???

3D Mark 06 means nothing - tho a bit odd you got a lower score with the same CPU.

Bit hard to compare without previous scores to go by - and my old 8800GT SLI benchmarks are only 1280x so not that useful... something like RE5, crysis, DMC4, etc. would give better results... end of the day tho people underestimate the 8800GT SLI the only thing that let it down was the 512MB VRAM - they were quite a bit faster than a single GTX280 so I'd imagine in some cases not that far off or possibly even faster than a single 5850 (tho obviously not overall)... tho something like crysis would be another matter.

Forest, you have no clue.

On contrary... he appears to know exactly what hes talking about... the G92 cores swapped from a core/ROPs heavy balance on the G80 to a more shader orientated balance and was one of the first cards to really stand a chance of anything at the time in Crysis and 2 of them in SLI are still very powerful just lacking the VRAM for higher resolutions.

Yeah looks fast, 5850 spanks it silly, I provide factual evidence.

above benchmark has been taken a very long time ago, can tell from the driver used for the 8800gt, 175.16

RavenXXX2 you fail at making a point and pass at looking stupid. end thread.

Thats a good point actually... the "big bang" drivers boosted G92 performance substantially (as I said they would at the time and everyone laughed at me lol). Tho thats not really the point - the 2 arguments were - the 8800GT was one of the first cards to really be able to handle crysis at all (which it was - the 5850 wasn't even around then) and that overall the 8800GT SLI can still hold it in there with the 5850 in a good number of cases - which it can.

Bang bang=wet fart, crysis never improved on the 200 cards never mind the GT's through drivers, NV fanboys must learn to accept defeat.

for the OP, even if you run 3dmark vantage, dont be surprised if the 8800gt's get a higher score, since the 8800gt will offload the cpu physics tests onto the gpu and the final result could end up making you reconsider your "upgrade" to the 5850.

You on smack? the 5850 can compete with 260 SLI and here you are giving it the 8800GT's can match a 5850 ROFL.

Muahaha:o

I'm not going to add to the 8800sli vs 5850 debate, but I would be surprised if you weren't happy with the game performance of this SINGLE card. Ignore 3dmark.

About the only place it can is crysis - where the GTX260 SLI doesn't manage quite as well as the 5 series cards and is closer to 5850 performance. In most other cases GTX260 SLI is a good bit ahead of the 5850 and often beating the 5870 by a small margin.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3656&p=5 single one of my GTX260 (Gigabyte SoC) almost matching a 5850 and in some cases actually matching it... sure these are massively OC'd over reference but thats out the box OC :D so GTX260 SLI is going to be a good bit above it.

My scores are
old set up
sim2 8607
HDR 10486
---------------------
New Set up
sim2 7192
HDR 9736

sim2 and HDR scores are higher on your older setup, cant argue with the numbers, you have taken a hit in GPU rendering power. your cpu scores are similar for both setups so its all down to gpu power.

best not to think of it now and just carry on using your new card. if you start thinking about this stuff your not gonna get a good nights sleep. just have to move on and accept the fact that your 3dmark scores are lower, and you have now lost hardware physics accleration and CUDA support, but you have gained dx11 support.

the link to the benchmark tests between the 2 setups posted by rolf also show your new card being slower then your older setup in some circumstances. either way 'if' you encounter a game that doesnt support sli then your new card shoudl be a fair bit faster.

Just turn up the AA to 8x where the ATI 5 series shine, even 3D Marks 06 would show a difference there between the 8800GT SLI and 5850.

@ OP Something wrong with your setup, as you can see by my results below with same clocks as you I best your 8800GT SLI scores, maybe them dodgy NV drivers are conflicting with the ATI drivers. Even though I'm running an 5870, they are comparable at same clocks.

Just down clocked my 5870 to 725 core 1000
mem, ran 06 and score below, i7 has HT enabled. I think your score is a bit low if your CPU is at the speed it says in your sig.
