5850 Twin Frozr II, what am I missing?

Also thanks to Moogleys for doing his research before giving his bright advice to a novice.

What advice ? I posted a link to an unlocked MSi 5850 Bios and a link to a site explaining about unlocking the cards. I gave no advice on flashing..?

The card boots and displays with no power leads connected it should be recoverable if not by the o/p then a call to Msi would be a good start.

Good job for bricking your card (temporarily or permanently).

OP, it's highly unlikely that your card is dead - have you tried the other DVI port? That BIOS changes some of the outputs as it's designed for reference 5850's.

If you bricked the card, you won't be able to do ****. It's possible to flash if you have a secondary graphics output though.

It seems to be temporary (hopefully) I just need an alternative method of outputting the display that does not require onboard VGA and I won't be able to get my hands on a cheap PCI graphics card until Monday/Tuesday.

I used the DVI port on the card.

Doubt the card's dead, as I mentioned, I get display using onboard VGA with the 5850 plugged in without 2x 6pin power connected.

Did you try safe mode and the MSi util ?

Edit - Just had a read and one guy had the same problem flashing with an unlocked bios and recovered it using this Msi live Vga update from the Msi site..

Ooh, gonna attempt this tomorrow, I'll report back with the results.

Unless there's a reason why I shouldn't do it? I see no harm in trying anyways, it's already 'bricked'

Oh, one more thing, will the flashing work using LiveUpdate (provided by the link above) if it's just the card plugged without 2x 6pin power connectors plugged in? Since that's the only way I can boot using onboard VGA.

Its not bricked it still powers up and displays. Its just wearing the wrong bios and its a case of finding something to re-flash the original bios back on.

If this fails then it looks like a two card method would be the best bet. If you google there are quite a few threads with the same problem and varying ways of getting it fixed. I would be more worried if the card did nothing at all tbh..

Where did you read about recovering the card with MSI's LiveUpdate utility? I can't find anything about it. All I can find on Google is about the card bricking by flashing and 2 card method.

That's not a BIOS for Twin Frozr II card...

And yes, the card is not bricked, only flashed with a wrong BIOS.

Idartalis, youshould still be able to output the display on one of the other ports.

I tried flashing the edited bios with higher overclocking limit using Radeon Bios Editor, didn't work, it 'bricks' the card.

So, I'm stuck with 775mhz core limit, oh well, at least I have a working card.
