Okay my new 5870 is great on all the new games etc

but when im playing a fairly older game [MMO] the graphics dont use as much

as battlefield bad company 2 etc, but sometimes they can use a bit more than normal when action is happening etc

so it keeps changing from 400mhz default core to 600 then 850 sometimes,

this causes a lot of chopiness and its very noticable only in this game

heres a picture

is there anyway while playing certain games i can force it to run at 850mhz core always?

please help me :(

Download MSI afterburner or rivatuner and you can set up a profile to run at 3d clocks all the time if you wish.

Ok.

You need to have saved your desired 3D profile using the save button.

Then click 'Settings'.

Scroll along at the top and choose 'Profiles'

Using the '3D Profile' drop down box, select your desired 3D profile.

Now your clocks will stay nice and steady in 3D applications.

thanks a lot for the time and effort mate

my profiles are already set up like that

but it still defaults down to 400mhz core

grr >.< driving me crazy

This should work, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner, open the text file with notepad and look for the line EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 0, change the 0 to 1 and save it, now restart afterburner, now to disable powerplay so your clocks do not go up and down in games you need to set an overclock profile in MSI, when you activate this your clocks will stay in their overclocked settings even when on the desktop, to get back normal idle clocks simply create a profile that has default stock clocks, when this is activated you will get back powerplay and lower idle clocks.

Well looking at the GPU load in the graph you've shown it's really low. Even decreasing the clock speed is still keeping it well below 100%. I could understand the frame-rate bouncing from high to really high when the clock changes, but it can't be low to high, right? Else we'll see the GPU load display topping out!
So - can you try enabling vsync and keep it visually consistent?

I see your playing MMO’s, if the game is all jerky then more then likely it’s server lag that’s causing the gameplay to lose its fluidity.

If Afterburner doesn't work try Ati Tray Tools. Its got auto 2d/3d clocks and I find it better implemented for Ati cards then Afterburner.
