hi all
i'm back from holiday and now that there is core i5....i go for it instead of i7 coz it is relatively cheaper but anyways

5870 gone out and i been wondering is it really worth it?
Well yes DX11 card....but will it really be needed? i mean i can play games on dx10 right?

so i wanted to buy 4890 Vapor-X card, its a good one too but its not DX11,big deal?

what should i do?

Well seeing as there are no games that use DX11 yet I would buy the 4890 - by the time DX11 games come out the 5870 will either have dropped significantly in price or new cards will have come out that are better anyway.

well for example Dirt 2....can i play it at DX10???
or any other DX11 game can i play it DX10?

All DX11 games will run fine in DX10 mode using DX10 cards. It's the same situation as with DX9 cards running DX10 games.

TBH, it's best to wait a bit for the 58xx prices to stabilize, but investing £140 in a 4890 right now seems a bit of a waste too.

I think the 5850 is the sweet spot. It's only 15% slower than the 5870 but 30% cheaper.

I think they wont stabilize before Nvidia does something with ther cards lol:D

What monitor and resolution do you run games at? If you aint running at top resolutions i dont think you would notice the difference between a 4890 and a 5870 just yet.

I'd wait and get a 5850 when they available soon for £200

res? 1920*1200 24inch screen
games like counter-strike,mod warfare 2, Batman, prototype,etc...

cheaper or more expensive....im confused,anyways:D

if u guys can spec me a core i5 system that adds up to 900 pounds i will much appreciate it!;)

all i need is:

CPU
MOBO
GFX card
RAM
PSU
HDD
DVD Drive
CASE

thanks a lot! :D

not its not off topic....

anyways thx Kyle for you spec but as someone said if ur not overclocking go for i5...imnot going to overclock it for sure...

speaking of Ram... i would love to have 6gb instead of 4gb

PCI speeds- doesnt matter i guess i will only use 1 card...

And i need a modular PSU i am noob, it will be my first build lol

dont know what to do:confused:

The spec I made up for you will be the best you'll get for your monies, or there about.

The i7 set up is more expensive, but I can't stress how it's much better value.

The motherboard and extra RAM is far better.

The PSU is modular too.

PCI-E speeds do matter though as a second card can be a cheap upgrade in the future when prices have dropped significantly.

It's your first build too, I guarantee that you will get the overclocking itch sooner or later. :p

i have another problem tho....
900 pounds have to be max with the delivery too...
and as i live in Malta my delivery cost will be about 100 pounds :(
so 800 is max lol im so nooby,i forgot totally about this delivery....

So that PSU is modular really, why doesnt it write in OCUK that it is?
i dont want to buy from anywhere else because OCUK rocks :D

Apparently the 5850 can be clocked higher than the 5870. There is a thread somewhere with a link showing overclocking stats with the 5850, was very impressive for £100 less.

hmmm...i think i will go for 5850 but im not sure what brand to get...

HIS? Sapphire? XFX?
