Ok here goes.

In the past I'v thought about overclocking my 5870, but having had a bad experience with my previous card (3870x2) I thought, better safe than sorry and just leave the 5870 alone, rather than start messing around with clock speeds etc....

However....... Im sure its made extremely easy in the ccc.

If I use the auto tune function in the ccc, it will overclock my 5870 gently....

However is this a click and forget scenario, as in if I use the ccc to overclock the card, will the clocks be set automatically when launching a 3d game?

The bad experience I refer to with my 3870x2, was after overclocking the card using the ccc, the card, lost the ability to do 60hz refresh and got stuck at 59hz......

I will pull my hair out if I try playing with my 5870 only to find, I'v screwed something up!

Also using the ccc to overclock:

1. Is it worth it?

2. What % boost are we talking about here on average?

HI, I've overcloked mine hd5870 using msi afterburner: much better OC utility, you can adjust volts, etc.

I however only was messing with clocks- +30mhz on both: memory/ clock... didn't go further, however people went further than that!

I used ccc in the past to overclock my 5870s and what i found best was to set up profiles once you get your max overclock..two clicks and you can set it to a gaming profile(your overclock) and back to normal once your finished gaming.

I would'nt bother with the auto tune much quicker doing it yourself and test then repeat till you get your max clock

^^^ fair, than I would use manual OC in CCC, as autotune in my experience was not stable during gaming at all, even during mid-power hungry games!

As to is it worth it, personally I could not see difference during gameplay: maybe there were fps increase in certain situations, but while playing, I don't check fps.

I cant clock my pcs++ super clocked 5870 atall, in fact i have to down clock it to stock 5870 levels for it to not crash, i have never had any luck with gfx overclocking
