Just wondered if any other owners of said card have experienced this...

Can be doing anything on the system and suddenly you get grey, brown or blue vertical lines going across the screen

looks like this

so far

latest drivers
temps ok
not OC the card
system is though i7 4.2

Starting to wonder if I need some extra juice to the card as I have only experienced this since going from 4ghz to 4.2ghz

any ideas

well I done 18 hours prime + both on small TFT and also and blast of blend
passed OCCT and also lin-x 20 runs with full memory

I am quite sure the OC is stable but then I am wondering if the grpahics needs some tweaking with PCI or something

I guess I could drop back to 4ghz - seems a shame though

done some testing - with the system overclocked running furmark recreates the problem!!!

I have ditched the OC and loaded optimized def for UD5 and then run the furmark test and it passed that time.

At least that proved it - here goes on 4 ghz will post back!!

Well guess what dude after a week of looking like things were sorted - yesterday was on cilin mcrae dirt 2 for hours with no glitch - stopped playing left something downloading and came to back to the "lines" - aaaaarrrghghghg. Im not entirely convinced its system related and maybe more driver. I get this without an over clock (recently), with an overlcock etc. If you google about you'll see a lot of people barking about this with 5870's. Some people are fine some arnt - It's so random I dont get it. There are new drivers out on wednesday this week which if you read some of the threads is supposed to cure some memory timing problem. Gonna try them and also a memtest+ as I havent done one but feel like it's ok. What news from your end?

Baffles me aswell because I would point everything at some kind of overclock issue but then I use handbrake all the time and games etc and it really only ever happens during some like opening firefox or just leaving something downloading in a prog, nothing mega inetensive. Also passing linx and 12 hours prime etc. Britboy is your system overclocked by any chance?

Dang it dude - didnt see no rules on sig - been posting about a lot on forums of late and they asked for full spec in sig so they can reference stuff - thought I'd do the same here - my bad - hope the new one is less in your fizog!:-)

##Unhugs tree, runs towrds home to start ATI packages ready for custom install##

May sound wierd but something has entered the situation....I just tripped the system back to 4Ghz from 4.2Ghz and noticed something bogus.
Before when I had no problems with my card when windows 7 desktop just about to appear, the 5870 did a 2 second mega fan spin (mini hairdryer burst!) and then went quiet. This didnt happen while higher clocked? I'm probably talking shi7 as usual but suddenly thats back as if the card is behaving differently, like when it wasnt crashing the PC. Gonna monitor this one and report back....fingers crossed!

Yeah this worrys me, I cant see how these new drivers out tomorrow can cure all these problems with vertical lines, seems it's all about overclocks, I dont know enough about OC'ing to get round this so I have a bundle that I paid for to run at 4ghz, but to run my new card in a stable fashion I am forced to drop the clock completely, bit of a stuck in the middle situation. I was wondering if some one with 4ghz bundle with the patriot memory running a stable OC @ 4 ghz & a 5870 might be able to offer some tweaks etc???

Hope this doesnt sound selfish but im glad there's more of you guys with this - to me it means its for real and it will be fixed in time. Re doing my OC tonight ready for new drivers tomorrow. This update thing must be the new panacea to all problems even microsoft are giving it off about that "black screen" issue; oh it was an update. " I came home and my PC was on fire" MS "Did you install update KP789456" , "Yes", "OK, uninstall it and you will stop burning"
