5870 > ?

When I bought a 5870 (from MM) for my brother's budget build, the benchmarks I looked at showed it trading blows with a 6870.

There were some benches where is fell behind a significantly*, but in many cases it was ahead.

*from memory it was tessellation performance or something

I'm thinking of upgrading from a 6870 and probably wouldn't consider anything less than a 7950 or 670 in order to see a big enough leap in performance.

I'm moving from a heavily overclocked 5850 and would only go for 7950 or above. Otherwise you may as well pick up a cheap 2nd hand 5870 again. Pretty poor performance increases in the last couple gens after the huge jump from 4xxx to 5xxx
