Hi guys,
I have the itch for an upgrade and looking for your thoughts on if its worth the hassle. Running a beautiful -30 CO plus a decent -negative offset undervolted 5900X., will even handle additional turbo boost, amazing chip. Bought on release. I'm thinking about a 7950X3D. I have a 3080 & G9 Neo. I do game when I can, looking to get Starfield ..... In the day the machine is used for software development with Visual Studio. I have looked at the stats between the two chips and there is a decent difference. Is it worth doing or should I wait for Zen 5?

Is it the g9 87" if so upgrade I had the 4090 ( couldn't run it at 240hz so got the 7900xtx ) and the CPU fed my GPU properly, some games regardless of res are cache sensitive, if it's the non 8k or you're planning on keeping your GPU wait until zen5
Yes its the 49" 5120 x1440. The 3080 seems to cope well. I think I run at 100 Hz and let GSync do its thing

I think the questions I'm asking is would it be noticeable on day to day tasks. I came from 8700K to 5900X and it was night and day. Felt like a good upgrade.

There's nothing like the cold harsh realities of logic to kill the upgrade urge. I think I will look at the actual upgrade cost to change my chip, motherboard and memory.

Cheers guys, really appreciated :)

Honestly wait for Zen 5. I have a 5900X at -20 offset and it bloody brilliant. Only game I can see that would be worth the upgrade is starfield and its still struggling on Zen4. Productivity wise I love the 5900X, currently running a 4 core linux ubuntu virtual box instance and the other 8 cores for windows IDE's etc, great bit of kit.
It's just that itch, nothing wrong with my setup, just trying to justify it some how. Just fancy a play that is associated with new hardware, really miss it.

Did the deed, now the proud owner of a 7950X3D. What can I say ...

Now trying to get Windows 10 Core Parking working on Windows 10. Can't face a reinstall!

Now everything is sorted and running properly. Yes, there is noticeable difference in everything, really pleased with the upgrade, highly recommended. Wasn’t expecting much of an improvement.

X4 Foundations is much smoother, visual studio is a dream. Very efficient and I like the way AMD have implemented the cache, simple but works.

I have a similar itch brewing, how much did you spend in the end? I've been considering a 4090 but with my psu and cpu it just aint a good idea and I can't really justify all that so I figured start with the cpu/ram/mobo. What could I get for my mine do we think?
Hi there,
I sold mine based on mates rates. Your best bet for a value would be in the MM Price Check.

SO like the OP I've just pulled the trigger. Going from 5900x to 7950x3d, G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 64GB 6000MHz and ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI for funnzies
Nice one, you will enjoy. Just finished tweaking my memory and I'm about done.

Managed to get a nice CO of -34 for the Cache (0-7) and -21 for Non-Cache (8-15). Running PPT of 110 Watts, Tight C34 Timings @6000. R24 Cinebench Score of 2117 which is pretty good at 110 Watts. Temps are very low.

Really enjoying Starfield :)

What kind of frames increase did you get in games? Did it help Starfield?
Just got Starfield so I don’t know, cant compare. I really don’t watch frames to be honest. I think the gains are where you have a cpu intensive games like X4 and Starfield, minimums will be better. X4 runs much smoother for sure.

So far I have spent most of my time tweaking.

Did you have 32GB DDR4 or 16 DDR4 ram to sell on in the bundle?
What was your AM4 MOBO?
Was it a members market sale or local. That's a good price you got for the bundle :)

Just trying to figure out if it's worth it for me
Hi there,
32Gb, Tomahawk X570 and a mate. The 5900X was pretty special in that it ran a decent negative offset and a CO -30. It also ran +150 MHz boost. I also sorted out all the B-Die timings so it was nice and tight.

The bundle I bought was from the MM. i have just upgraded the Memory to 64GB to get A-Die and that was over £200.

I’m also contemplating upgrading from 5900x to 7800x3d. I have a 4090 already and running at 21:9 aspect on a CRG9 monitor. Reading the posts here makes me feel want to pull the trigger. My only dilemma is what mobo to get as the reviews seem quite mixed across the board and I’m disliking the slow boot times as well?
I have the MSI Tomahawk, brilliant board. Slow initial boot while the memory trains is unfortunately the nature of AM5 with DDR5. I have got used to it. It get worse with 64GB. It might improve with bios updates.

If you enable memory context restore, boot time after the initial training at first post will be 5 seconds or less.
Doing this can affect stability. I'm ok with the small wait and avoiding a OS reinstall due to corruption. I suppose it all depends on how far you have pushed the memory tweaks and if they are on the edge.
