Just finalising RAM timings to get things stable on my new 5950X.

Once done though I’d like to look at PBO, are there any caveats that I should be aware of before enabling it?

Think there are multiple PBO tiers on my ROG Strix X570-F Gaming.

CPU is running under an AIO.

I think PBO2 (Curve Optimizer) is the way to go, looking in to it myself.

Just watched a 30 min video on how to use it and it looks a lot more complicated than the old PBO that I used on my 2700X.

May just put it on hold for a bit and use the PC for what it’s designed for instead. :D

If you need a super stable system and can't invest a lot of time for stability testing leaving stock with just elevated powerlevels is best.
Otherwise PBO is sure the way to go. It is more difficult to test and get stable but now with core cycler and other tools it's mostly automated (but time consuming).

There is one PBO in the A.I tweaker and another in advanced tab. They are the same but the advanced tab is the full version of PBO, the one in A.I tweaker is just for powerlimits.

I have the same motherboard and my experience is that the standard VRM frequency is a little bit low for unleashed PBO (I got random idle shutdowns at stock), just increase it to 300 or 350 while keeping an eye on VRM temps.
Otherwise it's not much more than elevate powerlevels and undervolt as much as possible. Try to increase frequency while avoiding clock stretching. it seems like my 5800x want to stay below 70c in single core and 80c in multicore for maximum clocks.

I can help you with the settings, it's a bit complicated until you get the pusslebits together.

Thanks for that. It’s the time consuming bit that’s the only issue really.

Will finally settle on RAM timings tonight but it looks like to do PBO2 proper justice it could take days of testing, and I just don’t have the time for that at present.

Yeah, then I would recommend to just increase the VRM thingy and up the powerlimits a bit.
Full blast is not necessary best for performance, EDC should just be hit when doing cinebench or similar for best score. The principle is to avoid thermal micro spikes to keep the temperature down so the processor can keep its boost. Presuming you are hitting thermal limit.

But it all depends on internal limits stuff, I only have experience with 5800x. So increase/decrease in steps and watch the cinebench or other benchmark score.

Cheers guys, appreciated.

Looks fairly straightforward, albeit very time intensive due to stress testing for stability.

I will have a play around with it at some point I’m sure, but will probably try to eek a little more out of my RAM this weekend. Thought I was happy with it but think there’s a little left in the tank still. Such is the way! :D
