5970 3 displays - help?

I have a Saphire OC 5970. I have 3 displays. A Samsumg LCD connected via DVI, an older monitor AVG->DVI, and a TV connected via HDMI->Mini Display port.

I am trying to extend my desktop across all 3, but running into problems.

I can get any 2 working fine, but when I try and extend to the 3rd one the ATI Catalyst warns me that it needs to disable an adapter to do this.

So, am I trying to do something that is impossible, or should there be a way to do this with a single 5970? I thought that with this Eyefinity thingamajig 3 displays was feasible, or is that just within games?

you need an active display port to hdmi/dvi adaptor

The 5970 uses a mini DP port.
Also, you create a group, not extending displays for eyefinity.

So is that Adapter you linked a necessity for 3 way windows desktop extension (i.e I can't possibly achieve what I want without it) ? From the info on the item page it does kind of sound that way, but I just want to make sure I can't do it without, before splashing out

I am currently using the Mini Display port to output to my TV via an HDMI lead.

I don't understand why I cannot then use the 2 DVI connections to output to 2 monitors, without needing to buy an extra (£80 ) adapter.

Indeedy! Luckily I do have a Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 OC and boy is it lovely, just the little matter of getting 3 screens working.
