5970 installed

If you overclocked beyond the stock 5870 settings I see no reason why the 5970 OC wouldn't be faster - I think the only difference would be that the crossfire bridge would be internal.

Were would a heavily oced 5970 stand against crossfire 5870's

As fast or faster.

A 5970 is basically 2x 5870 hardware crammed onto 1 card with less power and clock speed, with overvolting most of them can at least hit 5870 speeds and more.

There's little difference between traditional crossfire and crossfire on one card, so the 5970 is a very cheap way to get 5870 crossfire basically. It's unfortunate the price game stores are playing is bluring the situation.

It would beat them but its a bit of a pointless comparison as you would obviously o/c the 5870s, seems like the 5870s would win the day.

The 5870 crossfire will probably be easier to get high overclocks but both cards will overclock past 5870 speeds its just a case of how much effort you're willing to put in, with a decent PSU and watercooling you could probably win with a 5970 vs 2x 5870 on air.

Appreciate it if you 5970 owners can help me out?

i have a 5970 pre-ordered and possibly ready for delivery this week, are the drivers that bad for the 5970,are you using the 9.11s,9.10 or betas, are they all bad atm for the 5970?

Are many games suffering, micro stuttering etc. not sure whether to cancel my pre order and just keep my 5870 until drivers mature for the 5970.

I'm using the drivers off the disc that came with the card

Driver Packaging Version 8.663.1-091110a-091466E
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.961
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0001
Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0700
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9030
Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.1110.2146.39048

The BETA's really suck.

MW2 plays great at the moment.

Are the 9.12's meant to be the good drivers been held back for us ?

Some people have more money than sense!

(there's a reason that's in green - I'm jealous! Grats on purchase and case tidyness)

But anyone can buy this GPU...you dont have to be rich to buy one...just know how to manage your resources ;)

I would advise against getting the 5970 unless you're prepared to overclock it. The whole card is designed for overclocking, it'd be like buying a mountain bike and never changing gear.

To add to that you probably need to water cool it as well, the stock cooler is fine for moderate overclocking though.
