Hi Chaps,

I am looking to replace my ATI 5970, its still in great condition but some games are starting to struggle and I want to get a Nvidia for Physx and TXAA etc...

At the moment I am looking to get a 780 but should I wait for the 780 Ti to be released and then pick up a cheaper 780?

I play at 1920 x 1080 but I will be getting an Oculus Rift at some point so thats why I am leaning towards the 780 rather than the 770.

What do you suggest, should I wait a while for a cheaper 780 or are the prices already quite cheap atm (I know Nvidia reduced the price with the announcement of the 780 Ti).

What do you guys recommend?

I wouldn't think that the 780ti release will make the 780 prices drop much more, though I could be wrong. Iirc, it's only days away from its arrival, so you may as well wait anyway.

780Ti wouldn't, as its price would most definitely be standing on no-man's land. Most people are hoping the release of the 290 Pro would be able to do that instead.

290 or 290X would a good upgrade.... A 7970 Ghz edition is faster then a 5970 so anything faster then a stock 7970 Ghz edition would be an upgrade.

I am not buying AMD I want Physx and TXAA etc... Hence the question which 780 I should purchase.

Why? Next generation consoles will be using OpenCL for GPU physics processing which means that console ports will also use the OpenCL standard.

PhysX is as good as dead.

And most games that have TXAA blur the hell out of everything.

If you are DESPERATE for an Nvidia card you should probably wait 'til the 780ti release, just to see, they might drop the prices, despite Nvidia being so tight on things like that. It might happen because of the R9-290 but knowing Nvidia it probably won't.

If you aren't desperate for an Nvidia card right now you could wait for the new Maxwell architecture (At least that's what I think it was called) which is due to come out in the first quarter of 2014.
