Hello all,

Not sure if there has been another thread on this - but been browsing other forums and I found this.

This is meant to be from a confirmed source the AF system for it

The REAL new Canon 5D AF system...92 AF points, 39 cross-type (shown in red)

Also the "confirmed" spec sheet

The new 5D II will not be released at Photokina, but instead will be a surprise announcement on April 22, according to a source I am unwilling to disclose.
The specs of the new camera are as follows (final name unavailable):

- 15.3 MP full frame CMOS sensor (vastly improved light-gathering capacity per pixel: improved micro lenses; miniaturized micro circuitry; enhanced signal/noise ratio)
- Weather sealing same as 1Ds Mark III

- Dual Digic III with all-new "CXR" NR system reported to best 3rd party NR software. Available as a C.F with 4 levels of customizable parameters.
14 bit A/D conversion

- ISO 12800 (C.F. up to 25600)

- Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement

- All-new 29-point TTL CMOS sensor
with 12 cross-type for F/2.8 or faster lens
(35% faster than 40D)

- Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses

- 300,000 exposure shutter durability

- 6.0 / 3.0 fps

- 3.0" LCD
922,000 pixels

- EOS Integrated Cleaning System

- Live View (improved from 450D; latest generation)

- 6/3 fps continuous shooting for up to 68 frames

- MSRP $3499, available June 2

I've read about this April 22nd announcement now from 3 different places. So keep it penciled in guys! :D

Hmm April the 22nd isn't that long now, so we'll know soon enough either way.

Whatever the spec, I'd love to have a play with one when it comes out.

Same.

My friends Dad has the current 5D and is following this one like a hawk and is going to buy it ASAP.

I'll have a play with his camera :D

faker than a 9 bob note ;)

The specs are far to close to the 1D mk3 which will affect sales of it

no they aren't? the 1D MkIII shoots at 10fps, a 110 shot buffer, a 45-point AF system with 19 cross-type points, in-camera AF tweaking, and only 10.1mp

the 5D has always been about full frame, excellent image-quality shots very slowly, while the 1D MkIII has always been about getting as many shots in as possible.

Hmm I've seen the 22nd spoken about in various places, so it might be the real date or it might not. However, I'd be dubious of many stats that come out just yet. On the face of it, I wouldn't say that those are likely to be too far off the mark, though.

Indeed. The 5D is really more in competition with the 1Ds mkIII anyway - you won't see that many 1D mkIII bodies in a studio environment and competing with the 1Ds mkIII / 5D market.

sorry, i meant the 1Ds Mk3

It doesn't have weather sealing to the extent of the 1 series but the 5D is regarded as a professional camera and so it should be weather sealed. Not every pro likes a bulky camera.

My point was more regarding fps and mega pixels.

16.7 WOW.... Although the 5D was 12.8.
5mp difference and people think that 15.3 is close to the mark IIIs 22... Course its reasonable.
