Has anyone taken the plunge with 5G yet ?

I assume lots more phones will come out very quickly and coverage will grow quickly or do you think its still a way off?
 
It’s a new revenue stream for telcos - a way to convince the public of a need they didn’t know existed and to buy an expensive phone and plan to take advantage of it. Therefore I’m sure coverage will grow as fast as possible.

I don’t need 5g (unless it takes over from home broadband) so won’t specifically look out for a 5g model when I change phones. In a couple of years it’ll be unavoidable I reckon.
 
Currently looking for a new phone...I can't see 5G been available / anywhere near good value / useful within a 2 year contract. However, I'm still tempted by the s10 5G (for the 3D camera) but I know that's stupid! s10 Plus 512GB has some good deals at the moment so might go for that.

Due to the cost of 5G data currently, and I think I'm right in thinking nothing requires that speed yet I'm not interested in a 5G contract...

£170 upfront and £54/month for 3 years? A fool and his money is the first thing that springs to mind.
 
5G isn’t even on my radar at the moment. 4G is much more than fast enough for everything I use my phone for. I’ll get 5G when I just happen to buy a phone that supports it and my current contract is upgraded to include it. I can’t see any use scenario where I’ll need the speeds 5G theoretically provides.

Why would anyone go with that when vodafone offers 5g with unlimited calls text and data for £30 a month?

The best thing is Bournemouth is on the list for 5g network expansion later this year so sounds good done by vodafone.

Correct me if wrong about 5g though as i am not sure if 5g is covered as unlimited.
 
I'm on PAYG spending about £1/month so no, not remotely interested atm.
Still using my Galaxy S6, when I eventually replace that I'll want a phone that supports 5G, just for future coverage if nothing else.
 
I agree with peoples stand points regarding 5g,

I'll wait until it has matured when 5g is more available and also get a handset that supports 5g,

Heck even 4g is fast enough.

Agreed - decent 4G is fast enough for sure.

I’m not even sure what we need 5G for at this stage - expensive to implement too with the range being so low (distance wise) per transmitter
 
as I said seen nothing to show what service is actually available

Oh yeah, friend of mine has got one, OPPO something or other on EE, and he keeps banging on about how good it is. Haven't seen it myself yet though. Although I did point out to him that it was probably a waste of money as he lives, works and socialises in and around Stoke-on-Trent and hardly ever ventures any more than 20 miles away. :D But I'm betting more than one of you know a person like him, they just has to have the latest shiny thing.

The 30 quid deal seems reasonable enough. Why can't they just do that and be done with it?

Anyway, irrelevant for me as I have no signal with them. I bought a Smart Ultra 6 a few years ago and while I unlocked it immediately, I did get 50GB free data included with the compulsory £10 Vodadone top-up I had to buy. I tried using it but it was....unusable. :p

this is all stopping people using it to replace their home fibre/ftoc link ? if they live in the right place.

Phone signal sensitivity will be an important criteria for my next purchase ... since I currently live in the bermuda triangle
