Hi there, long time lurker but my first post.

Current PC is getting old now, she is about 6 years old, so figure its time to retire the old girl and get myself a new PC. Problem is things have moved forward so much in that time I am WAY behind with what's hot and what's not, so really need some help and opinions if at all possible.

As said in the title I have a budget of around 5 grand for this build, for that i want everything, new keyboard, new mouse, 5.1 sound system, PC box itself and also I am looking at a triple monitor set up as well.

First thing is I don't want anything Razer, fed up of buying a new mouse every 6 months because it has packed up, on my 5th or 6th now in 2-3 years, also not long bought an Anansi keyboard which is terrible, all the shift/ctrl etc keys often work like sticky keys, and the shift to do capital letters doesn't work instantly so half the time you end up typing lower case, its a really crap keyboard, wouldn't pay a fiver for one.

Also looking at Nvidea for graphics due to reading about AMD/ATI cards giving tearing on one monitor due to the outputs on the back of the cards not all being the same, which is a shame as I have always used them for a good 10 years or more, but I will go with what's best.

Other than that I am open to suggestions, so far my general idea has been,

CPU - i7-3770K Quad Core 3.50 GHz
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 Chipset
RAM - 16GB
GFX - GTX 690 dual GPU x 2 in SLI
HDD 1 - Solid State 240GB
HDD 2 - 2 TB
PSU - 1000 watts
Sound card - Xonar DGX 5.1
Speakers - Logitech Z-506 5.1 Surround Speakers + Subwoofer
Keyboard - Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard

Mouse - No idea
Monitors - No idea, but some with small bezels, I did see a set up that came with 3 monitors and stand for around £1000, but seemed a bit steep.

This will all be water cooled and overclocked by a shop, and probably assembled by them as well.

Now probably forgot some stuff, but any help with this build would be greatly appreciated, feel free to change what you think should be, or advise what I should get, though reasons why something is good or bad would be nice :)

Many thanks in advance.

Oh sorry wanted to mention that this will be used primarily as a gaming PC, and I want to as best as possible max out every game on tripple monitor set up.

the monitors I saw were these Samsung MD230X3.

Best I could do, over budget and still need mouse and keyboard but they're down to personal choice mainly.

Edit - nvm just saw the watercooling part.

Why the i7 when he says it's only for gaming?
And nearly £500 for an SSD seems a bit unneccessary, it's too small for all the storage of a gaming PC. Why not get a 128GB with a HDD for storage of all his games?

I think it is easy to spend when it's not your own cash. ;)

Personally, I think that's a poor build you've suggested Spenty. Looks like you've been building up to a set price instead of building a gaming PC.

Okay I got the CPU wrong I'm tired. However I doubt it's a very poor build lol.

512gb is not too small for a gaming SSD either. I have 256gb and have plenty of games installed.

Go troll elsewhere.

This is what you want for a budget like this. Spending more than that gets to the point where your bang for buck will be worse. You could call Overclockers up and get them to put another 690 in if you want to make full use of your budget.

Edit: you could also call them up and ask them to add a 256gb drive for a Games drive, this would be a good addition tbh, and possibly a sound card for your 5.1 surround setup. It already comes with a 1tb drive for media storage.

I'd also get a triple monitor stand* from somewhere else as the prices here are not competitive for those.

Like the look of that build, but would the GFX cards be able to run 3 of those monitors at 120Hz?

Also 3D on all 3, does that work OK? to be honest not looked at 3D at all.

What sort of watts do two 690's pull? damn, I can't even imagine £1800 on two graphic cards. To think how times have changed back in the GeForce 3 days when the best card you could buy was £300.

Can a 1kw PSU even drive two 690's? those 690's are gorgeous kits though.

I think 3D would work fine (well better than fine, work beautifully)in this setup, I believe a SLI setup for 690s minimum required is 850w. But overclockers would know that and would upgrade the PSU for you, you can ask. You would also have to buy a 3D kit.

Would 16GB be enough for a monster of a system like that? 32 would be lovely, no? if he's possibly going to do game recording/editing and such, who knows. Options are good.

nVidia 3D and AMD 3D are different, the Samung S23A750D only supports AMD 3D as far as I'm aware.

BenQ & ASUS do some nVidia 3D (possible on 3 monitors) certified monitors: here
