£5k Budget, help please.

The amount being spent here astounds me :(

Personally if I had 5k just for a PC. Id spend at most 3k on the tower. Anything more (For gaming) will see no to little benefit.

The rest id spend on a top set of perifferals, trackIR5 top keyboard and mouse X65 flight stick. top end 27 or 30 inch monitors.

Big desk to fit it all on.

OcUK extreme overclocking high performance tea mug.

To spend 5k you have to go socket 2011 or even xeon. Which would actually result in less gaming performance. If gaming is the sole purpose ofc.

Wearing my "Martin Lewis Hat" for a moment, isn't is a bit silly spending £5K on a PC ?

Yes, £5K will buy pretty well top spec components, but within a year or two these components will become mid spec. Surely it would be much more wise to spend £2.5K now, and keep the other £2.5K for upgrades over the next 2-3 years. I doubt that the difference between a £2.5K and a £5K PC would be that noticeable, if at all.

Of course, if money is no object, then spending the £5K in one go isn't in question.

How much improvement in real world performance will a 5K PC be over a 2.5K PC, and how much longer will it be before it needs upgrading ? Not a lot, me thinks.

Thats what im thinking dervious. To be able to fill a 5k budget. You need a 6 core i7 on an X79 platform.

But if its for gaming. This may actually yield LESS performance (FOR GAMING) than a highly clocked i7 1155 chip on the Z77 platform and the Z77 would come in cheaper. For a gaming system. beyond 3k you stop gaining performance and potentially begin to loose it. 2-3k on the PC and the rest on perifferals and desk/chair. save it for future upgrades. software and games etc.

Just wanted to throw this out there, i am posting on another forum as well and this was one of the responses from a tech guy,

7970 Crossfire consistently out performs dual GTX 680 or single GTX 690 on 3x1080p displays. This generations GTX are totally out classed by the 7970 for triple screen gaming. In Bf3 dual 7970 can hold playable minimum frame rates where the GTX 690 sits in the high teens o, Ultra settings.

Is this what everyone else finds? I was put off the 7970 due to the screen tearing on one of the monitors? but are they really the best option for three monitor set ups?

You shouldn't believe everything you read. Performance is close over three screens with the 680's/7970's being faster depending on the game.

In regards to your build - I wouldn't go Quad SLI 690's as you'll be VRAM limited before you become GPU power limited...

I would go X79, 3930K, Tri-SLI 4GB 680's or 3-way Crossfire 7970's depending on your preference.

Then watercool and go from there.

This is what I would do right now with a healthy budget but as discussed, no need to spend it all tbh:

I don't think he's trolling. I think he's just letting money outweigh sense in this situation.

Still, if you can afford it, why not go nuts?
You only live once and all that...

Hello there mate , how are you ?
I think £2500 is the performance sweet spot myself.
I think if I had 5k like that I would spend half on a holiday or just save it for a rainy day.

If I had 5k i'd go for something like this

I'm good thanks mate. How are you getting on with your build?

Yeah, there's no real need to spend more than that unless you simply want to.

I still have not took the plunge yet, myself.
A loan didn't fall through , so I have to wait a bit longer.
I'm waiting to buy everything togeather, Although I was going to buy everything in 2 different shipments.

Anybody remember DrPitbull from around 4 years ago and his 7.5k pc bought from OCUK that ran on air with 3 sandwiched GTX 285's?Massive Massive fail:D
