People, i am going to need to buy a car.

£5k maximum, small, 2 door, economical, low tax, good fuel consumption.

I am not a boy racer, lol! Just need a car with the above. Preferably as new as possible. Just to get from A to B. Got no idea where to start.

Suffice to say, i had a nasty accident in my car today which the police and fire brigade reckons will be a right off. Obviously i have to wait for insurance to investigate. 100% my fault as i turned to go right at traffic lights thinking that the bus coming towards me was turning when in fact he ploughed straight into the passenger side of my car.

My fault. Police said i will get a letter with 2 choices. Court or driving course. Driving course it will be. Careless driving is the charge.

30 plus years of driving and my first, and hopefully last, accident. Insurance company informed.

So, what replacement car (I dont need insurance money to buy but will hire a car until i get verdict off of insurance company)

I had fully comp.

KIA Picanto?

But tbh fiesta is where my money would go, best to drive in class and decent engines

Not started looking yet. Will hire a car first and wait to see what insurance say.

I have fully comp

Accident was my fauly

Been done with careless driving......got to go on awareness course.

Not sure how insurance will react as not had an accident in 30 plus years of driving. I know my premiums will go up though!

Oooof, unfortunate mate, first rule is dont say nuffink to the coppers. (Im assuming you said to them exactly what you said here).

Important thing is you're still here.

No point in keeping quiet. It was obviously my fault. I told them so.

Matching that list, you won't get better than a K12 Micra dci, you even get the benefit of cheapest insurance.
You could go for a K13 if you want newer, but they are fugly compared to the K12.

Fiesta's are pretty decent, buy a bog standard petrol version (avoid deisel, turbo etc) and there is little to go wrong, the Mrs got a Mk7 1.4 petrol version, it's a great little car, get about 40-45 mpg if driven appropriately, and still enough power.

Yaris gets my vote or a Suzuki swift. With anything VW you always pay a premium for the badge, something from ford, toyota, Suzuki or the like will be far better value.

2nd hand will be fine. Want to buy from a dealer though as i wouldnt trust a private purchase i dont think.
