Hi All,

I train at the gym multiple times a week - basically 3 days on, 1 day off - repeat. My training is focused towards weights (strength training - squats, pullups, bench press etc)

My primary objective is to build strength, secondary objective is to burn fat.

However i really enjoy jogging and currently do 1 jog a week of 5-6 km in about 28 mins.

I'm thinking of increasing this to 2 or 3 times a week.

So my question is can i jog 5-6km on the same day i do weight training?

Would this have any negative impacts?

Note i'm not a body builder and not aiming for huge muscles - but also i want to make gains in terms of strength over time.

Many thanks

I don't see why not, it will be a good warm up. You'll soon get use to running 5-6km and it won't talk long for it to feel easy. So you won't be stressing your legs much unless you go further or faster.

Jump on the running tread if you need more specific advice on the running side of things.

I run every day, averaging 50+ miles per week, and also do 3x strength weight sessions.
Whilst some days I know I would do better at weights without the run, it's perfectly doable.

If you can do a run in the morning and weights in the evening that would probably work the best rather than all in one go, but I guess it depends on how much time you've got.

I was under the impression that long duration cardio can be effectively catabolic - but 5-6km doesn't sound too bad to me.

Jogging or any kind of cardio should be done in the morning and weight lifting in the evening I heard, for the best effect

Most of that's down to energy intake - you can be a 'hybrid athlete' if you're smart:
