Just got in from our usual Monday night 6 a side game (we actually won 2-1 :O)

I'm going to have to vent a bit of anger on here and its a bit long winded so bear with me. At 1-1 with about 10mins to go their keeper throws the ball out over arm (it in fact goes over two of our players) in our rules the GK must roll the ball out underarm. This should have resulted in an indirect free kick 2 yards out of the keepers area. Instead the referee played on until one of their players the ran the ball out for a throw near our own area.

I said to the referee is that not a foul and should it not be a free kick. He said no take the throw-in, i was a bit confused so i asked what would have happened if the ball had not been ran out and their player had kept the ball in? He said it would have been an indirect free kick. So i proceeded to ask why has he not given a free kick then. To be told to "**** Off" and take the free kick.

***Fully star out all swear words***

Now at no point up until now had i felt that i was rude or shouting I was simply, as captain of the team, questioning the decision.

TLDR revsion:

I question a referees decision only to be told to "**** Off"

***Fully star out all swear words***

Was i wrong in questioning the decision and is there any formal way of complaining about an FA trained referee outside of the company running the league?

woah, that's appalling! I'd definitely report him if I was you! Just contact your regional FA officer and tell them about his conduct. He'll get the book thrown at him!

Is this just at a Goals type centre?

They don't exactly have professional referees and often make mistakes.

I agree it's wrong he's told you to **** off. Perhaps have a word with the management / organisers?

Also the amount of total cocks I see playing footy and just want to fight and argue with the referees is sickening. It's why I don't play in a league. He might have just been having a bad day.

But they are FA registered, so he should answer to them.

They are as a rule awful. don't give the right decisions, take offence at the slightest thing. sonera don't even move off the one touchline and just call all the shots from a static position.

last night i got away with 2 blatant handballs - got one of their players blue carded for trying to kick off with me, and then got slid tackled from behind by their keeper outside the box and didn't even get free kick.

You should have asked your team captain to approach him.

He said he is the captain of the team.

We had a referee on Sunday night who got almost every decision wrong. It turned into a game of whoever shouts loudest gets the decision. I do feel bad for referees who make a few wrong decisions and get berated for it, but referees with no backbone really frustrate me.

Some interesting replies here and it looks like the level of refereeing is poor across the board.

It is just a soccer zone run league but as somebody has stated they are still FA Affiliated and as such should only employ FA qualified referees. (if you get sent off in a 6 aside game you can be banned for an 11 aside Sunday league match)

I can understand that referees are only human, but when they make mistake after mistake and nothing is done about it then its clear that the system is wrong. The guy only made two mistakes the whole game that i can remember (one being the one stated above and another was that he booked one of their players for playing on after he had given a foul, he had not blown a whistle only shouted so it was a bit harsh, at the end of the game though he did say he was not going to put the yellow through) I just found that being sworn at by an official was highly out of order. Im going to let the league know but they wont do anything about it so Im also going to email the Cheshire FA.

Some referees are beyond a joke. Due to a quirk in the fixtures we've been assigned the same referee for 2 games running, 1 league game and 1 cup game. He is an 'experienced' referee (i.e. well past his sell by date) and is well known for being awful.

Some examples from the last 2 games have been:
  • Giving a foul throw for any throw-in of less than 10 yards regardless of technique.
  • Ruling a goal offside despite the player dribbling the ball from inside his own half past the defenders.
  • Failing to spot the ball had gone out of play despite the linesman flagging furiously and the ball actually briefly going beyond the barrier that goes around the pitch.

One example our best player, 'Wilson' scored from the half way line, the ball went through the netting so the inattentive ref gave a goal kick..fo real. was a few years ago though.

Not 6 a side related, but I got cleared out by a player once, I got tackled so late and so hard (about 2 or 3 seconds after I had released the ball) that I ended up about 6 foot over the side line.

The bloke should have seen a straight red as he came in at knee height and was late , but only got a yellow, the dumb ass referee then gave me a yellow for calling the guy a cheating fat **** and trying to gouge his eyes out.
They have not got a clue.

:D

I think you both get a red for that to be honest!

Yeah, it's a bit of a lottery at the FA 5-aside centre in Norwich as well. One game a ref gave a penalty against us when it should have been an indirect free kick. That was pretty annoying...until he gave us one in the second half for the exact same thing :p

I play in a team at Bristol Pitch Invasion and sometimes have had some terrible refs.

One ref (who's only about 18) stays on the half way line ALL THE TIME and never moves, which makes decisions around the penalty area impossible to call and half the time he's wrong.

We have an old boy ref who once said to one of our supporters on the sideline if he was playing he would have got a blue card (he got some **** as he made a proper dodgy decision though).

Our very first match we had a ref who was on his phone most of the time and missed half the game!

That's not to say all the refs we've had are all awful but it's like some of them don't care and possibly don't know the rules. We had a game where the other team were new and were slide tackling all over the place (which isn't allowed in our league) and none of them got any sort of talking to; made me rage

What Idon't understand is why people insist on complaining when a decision doesn't go their way, the Ref will never ever change his mind so just get on with the game.

I agree he should not have sworn at you and I'd probably have mentioned it to the organisers but he's probably had people abusing him all night and had had enough there is a reason for the shortage of qualified and trained refs in this country.
