£700 build - "Spec me a" Thread Version 2.0

Right further to my original request/post, after talking it over with my mate, there has been a turn around in requirements.

Can someone throw me up a rig that has to have the following

CPU
RAM
SSD - 120gig
MOBO
COOLER - or stock cooler if a stock CPU is picked
GFX card
CASE
PSU
DVD drive/burner
KEYBOARD
MOUSE

NOT NEEDED - OS, Screen or Mechanical drive

budget about 700???? ish?? Rig is for gaming mostly with a bit of photoediting. Games like BF4 and Skyrim type games being played.

6 core is vauge, the 4770k outperforms the 6300 in video editing tasks...

Intels 6 core is the 4930k which smashes any all of the above in those tasks. But costs a premium.

Rather than a 6300 you'd be better off with an i5 3330 or (my choice) an FX 8320.

Is it just for video editing?

The only problem with going AMD is you don't get onboard GPUs on the decent boards (unless you pay an absolute premium) which means you'll have to get a cheap GPU too.. Which makes intel seem a much better route..

Just so you know, you WILL need to get a decent motherboard for an AMD (6300-8320) build as at full load the chips want to pull more than their rated at.. which means if you have a cheap board you'll get black screens and potentaily (ive seen threads on this) catch fire..

That issue doesn't exsist with intel.

Thoughts?

I need a budget 6 core machine

Current AMD chips are actually 4, 6, or 8 "modules", where each module = 2 integer units and 1 floating point unit, so you can't really compare 6 modules to 6 "traditional" cores.

The 8 module piledrivers (FX 83x0) are most similar to quad core i7s (in that both are 8 threads), the former having extra integer processing capacity and cache, but the latter being much more efficient (greater number of instructions per clock, and less power consumption).

The only thing faster than the above are the 6 core Intel offerings (socket 2011) but they're expensive. As Doomedspeed says, the 8320 is the way to go on a budget.

I'm going to be constrained by budget, mates budget. Would a good i5 be a better option for him for editing than the 6core AMD offering?

What sort fo 8320 rig price would I be lookingat pricewise then? I myself have always used INTEL so I'm not 100% au fait with AMD rigs/mobos.

no gaming
no OS needed
have keyboard and mouse already
60/80gig SSD
1tb HD if possible
DVD drive
case
power
ram
mobo
cpu
stock cooler would be fine as it'll not be overclocked.

Intel route...
i5-4670k, £185
MSI Z87-G43 ATX Motherboard - FREE Alpenfohn Civetta Cooler, £87
TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz, £60
OCZ Fatal1ty 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply, £80
BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black, £33
OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter, £17
SanDisk Pulse 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive, £63
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache, £46

AMD route...
AMD FX-8350, £150
ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard, £80
Everything else as above.

Probably a Haswell i5 non-K is the way to go then, e.g. whichever of these fits budget best (identical but for clock speed, and the xx30 doesn't have TSX).

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £169.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4570 3.20GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £155.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4430 3.00GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £139.99

All the rest is much of a muchness, just get a case that looks nice, cheap memory and drives, and a quality PSU. He can use the onboard graphics and stock cooler.

Alright have had a go at the spec, a bit over £450 and no case (is personal preference really, but the mobo below is micro ATX so he could get something really small), so not a brilliant attempt! Sure others can improve.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4570 3.20GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £155.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLD316G1600HC9DC01) £107.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Red 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EFRX - OEM HDD £54.95
1 x Corsair Force LS Series 60GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CSSD-F60GBLS) £54.95
1 x Seasonic S12II 430W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
1 x MSI H81M-P33 Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £42.95
Total : £478.81 (includes shipping : £10.00).

edit: the mobo is really weak, check the screen resolution he needs first!

If I went with 8 gig RAM and the money saved went to a case would that be an option? Is that the cheapest 16 gig of RAM there is?

A small problem
That cpu and mobo dont have a ogpu so you will need one gpu
i received my yesterday and will built it tomorow with the same mobo and cpu, i hope everything goes fine

Though you said you weren't going to overclock, overclocking an 8320 and then upgrading the system with an SSD later when you have the cash would get you by far the most bang for buck on this kind of budget, IMO.
