6 ft / 1.8 m of space under ground floor floorboards - anything I can do to use the space?

I was interested and thought it was a good idea and was interested in what storage options the OP would think of. Read 'Snooker / pool / games room maybe?'. Lost interest, thread will fail.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the replies. I'll see if I can get some pictures once we've moved into the property (sorry - I should have mentioned this in the OP. We haven't moved in yet - waiting to exchange contracts).

To those who were asking - yes it's 6 ft/1.8 m of floor to height void under our floorboards, covering the entire footprint of our bungalow.

so what height are you and your household?

the only thing it can be used for is storage unless you want to try some of the crazy stuff like digging deeper if foundations allow or raising ground floors if viable. at great expense.

i believe most people tend to just leave it as storage space much like an attic.

Even if it's just storage it means we can move all sorts of crap/clutter to there.

Perfect if just for storage. Keep everything off the ground, Fit some racking, use plastic storage boxes that clip shut to help keep everything dry and fit a water alarm of some sorts (incase it starts flooding for some reason... gives you a heads up!)

When down there, insulate the ceiling (floor of the room above), makes a big difference to comfort/warmth.

Dont forget to provision for lighting down there.

Brewing room, underground so constant temperature, probably pretty easy to plum in a tap and some wiring.

could have a lovley full home brewing set up with a few kettles, and kegs etc

6ft aint too bad for mosty people, especaily with a sofa/tv for a lounge room, i mean honestly how much oif your time in any room other than your ki8tchen and bathroom do you spend standing?

Yep - it's 6ft/1.8m floor to height in the so-called cellar/void space under the floorboards.

Consider most terraced houses which have cellars are around 1.8m.

i've been to clubs in London that are in cellars that high tbh it not an issue for most rooms.

what are the walls and floor damp would be the big worry, along with ventelation

As there is literally no access to there, we'll need to install an access hatch somewhere. Thinking about putting it in the spare bedroom.

people usually put them under the stairs in the cavity underneath them. however you say this is a bungalow. so if there is a discreet place probably best there. i wouldn't put it in a bedroom if can be avoided personally. is there a large enough storage room you could use?
