How much were you look at before out of interest?

To be honest mate, i had a 1.8 mondeo on my first year, cost around £1300, that should have been about £900 on my renewal with the one year NCB, no im looking at paying around £1500 this year, so its pretty bad.

Just one of those things though, i want to get insured on her car, i'll never afford it now though.

AFAIK loosing my 1 year NCB which i earn next friday
help me out here,
afaik your ban is effective immediately yeah?
doesn't that mean you won't earn your 1 years NCB as you won't have completed a years claim free driving?
after all when you declare your ban al the relevant dates will be visible and your insurance company will notice a slight overlap.

I cant see that'll be a problem. He didnt have an accident. The car can be insured even if he isnt driving, I dont think their this picky
i honestly don't know, although someone like merlin will probably be able to clear this up.
they may check they may not, but if they did then it'd be an easy thing to worl out that the ban came in before the OP had earned a ful years bonus.

Yes but would it effect NCB anyway ? People use insurance just to park a car on the road and you dont need a license to do that I believe
well strictly speaking a years NCB is proof you've completed a years claim-free motoring, so if you'd been banned before the year was completed then you shouldn't have earned that years bonus.
if this is not the case then where is the line in the sand being drawn here?
banned a month before the year is up?
2 months?
could you insure a car and be banned six months into a policy, yet still earn an extra years NCB six months later?

But its not a 'claim' is it, so theres no reason for him to not get his no claims bonus. You dont lose ncb for a speeding ticket!

no, but lok at it this way.
if you took out a policy, then cancelled it three months later for whatever reason.
would you expect to be credited with a years NCB the next time you took out a policy?
no, of course you wouldn't because a years NCB tells your insurer that you've been driving for a whole year without incident.

your post mentions a claim, but in respect of losing bonus, whereas the point i'm making is would the OP have actuallly received a years bonus?

Its 7 days from the end, i have been disquailfied for 30 days, no where is any paperwork does it say it invalid's my insurance, i dont need to inform them as my car is sat on my drive.

I will get a NCB certificate through next week. i will wait til the end of my band then phone around for quotes, stating my NCB as i havent claimed, and declaring my ban. You dont need to drive a car everyday to get ncb, and ive just been temporaily disquailified. thankyou

Well, not quite. It tells your insurer that you've held an insurance policy for a whole year without claiming, and stupidly the implications of that pretty much stop there :)

let's say your car is insured third party fire and theft.
someone steals it tonight.
is your insurance valid or not?

:) its not, its a 200 quid escort, with a flat battery atm and a cracked bumper, i wouldnt lose sleep over it, when i get my new car in january it will more than likely be scrapped

doesn't answer my question though does it?

I put its not and the start, that means its not valid AFAIK. But i wouldnt claim on it is my reply. from next friday the insurance runs out, and will not be renewed untill 16th of december.

so if it's not valid, why is that exactly?

Its not valid, but its sat on my driveway, happily out of arms reach, you dont need insurance to have a car off road. The policy runs out next week as thats the 12 months up. Before i take it on a public road again, it will be insured.

you take my point though?
your insurance isn't valid because you no longer have a license.
so, is it so hard to believe that as you didn't hold a license for the full 12 month term of your insurance then they are within their rights not to credit you with a years NBC?

I have been short term disqualified, thats all. Does mean they cancel your insurance im sure. Just see if the certificate comes through, i havent claimed, so why should i loose it. I see your points, but its not really clear either way.

totally agree that it's less than clear.
all i was saying was that as you will not have been driving for a full year, then they could possibly refuse to credit you a years NCB.
after all lets say you had a six month ban halfway through a years policy.
would you receive a years NCB at the end of the term?

You could ask on five-o forum if you want to settle this. Personally I think your car is still covered for theft and a ban doesnt affect your accident record so long as you declare it.
You could phone up the present insurers and tell them, I dont think it'd affect anything. They may try and charge you more, which is maybe dark_side's point
