What does a "med school pass" get you?..not sure what that covers.

It means he gets a medical degree - or rather two degrees in one: a bachelor's in medicine and in surgery. He'll soon use the courtesy title 'Dr' though will generally drop it later and revert to 'Mr' if he becomes a surgeon.
