Carried over from the show-us-your-home-cinema thread..

I have been looking around for Plasmas now that you have given me the upgrade bug, but I really don't want to spend 3k on one just now. I think 1500 is my limit.

The best deal I have found so far is a Samsung PS60E550D1R at 1000gbp.

Is this a reasonable set? I am aware it has a reflective screen but I use it mainly at night anyway. My requirements are picture quality and DLNA really.. thats about it.

Other things I have seen:

Sharp LC-60LE630M is 1100gbp with free home theatre (which I totally dont need! :) )
Samsung ps64e8000 is 2400gbp
Panny TH-P60UT50 for 1700gbp

Would the PS60E550 do the job or should I be looking for something completely different (LED?)? Currently I have Samsung 5 and 7 series LEDs in the house and am fairly happy with them, but after a size uplift!

thanks in advance

Thanks for that. That has DLNA built in am pretty sure most of their range would have this by now.

Samsung UAE seem to import max. 55" LEDs in 6 and 7 series form, and 60" and 65" in 8 series.. but I may find something else if I hit the shops.

Does it have to be a plasma? I got myself one of the Sharp 60" Aquis sets for £999 and I'm very impressed with it. I still have my Panny plasma, albeit relegated to the bedroom and TBH the motion control is miles better on the Sharp, nice n smoooooth with no juddering.

Thanks. they are available so I will view them.

It doesn't need to be Plasma, just the best PQ possible for the budget. I assumed that would be Plasma, but I may be out of the loop on the new models!

Considering pretty much no LCD/LED backlit display can do the full 1080P in motion without turning on motion processing, where's lots of the newer plasma displays can, I'd really love to know how your LCD has better motion.

Pretty sure the SAMSUNG UE60EH6000 can be had for that sort of money...

LED, not plasma, but better technology IMHO.

What? Most people here and on AVF will recommend plasma over LCD/LED.

I have a 60" LG plasma that I've been very happy with.

Thats what I believed..

Just found 2 LG Plasmas in budget

60PM6900 - 1011gbp
60PA6500 - 845gbp

There is not much between then other than a couple of additional sound and picture modes and LAN support on the 6900.

Plus it has pentouch and magic pen which may be nice for my child seeing as she messes around with the screen anyway!, and something called Magic Remote.

I looked at the Sharp but the connections are all on the back and it wouldn't be as easy to wall mount.

except it uses a crud load of electricity, the sets are thicker/heavier, screen burn, have a shorter lifespan and are prone to humming and buzzing

It's a ******* TV, you buy it for the ******* image!! Sorry, it really gets on my nerves when people say this. Beside, Panasonic's 2012 range is ridiculously thin.

Screen burn in non-existent in modern (Panasonic) plasmas. Shorter lifespan...please provide evidence for this claim.

You can hear the humming only when the sound is so soft, you cannot hear the dialogue anymore.

I'll take every single one of those issues over cloudiness, worse black levels, poor motion resolution, back light bleed/torchlighting.

I have 2 Panasonic Plasma TV'S (parents have my old one) and not had any issue's with noise, I have the odd image retention which has gone in no time at all. My new one is surprisingly lighter and thinner.

Power usage I think (on my old one) was around 130w ~ not tested my new one.

Get a Panasonic Plasma, amazing picture quality, just look at the reviews. Head over to What HiFi, AV Forums, and CNET.

I recently got the Panasonic 50GT50 (50") for £899
OK, it's not 60" but I'd rather have the better picture than the extra inches and 50" isn't small.

Thanks or all the input! I will do auditions today.

Chadd- already have a 46", so the next step for my space would be at least 60" I think. There is a lot more choice around at 50" and 55" though, which are both good sizes.

I bought the LG PM6900 for 1k and got a free wall bracket, tablet and HDMI cable. Install and calibration booked for the weekend.

Thanks for help with this one chaps.
