Aside from Pong that is :).

The recurring thread here asking what 30+ year old gamers are playing is a decent question.

What about 60+ players though?

I'm two weeks short of my 63d year on this planet. I really don't play often but I do get the urge from time to time. No innuendo intended:)

I play Iracing and Call of Duty. Both fairly badly it has to be said. I stick to Rookie level on Iracing and dumb down the COD game to easy-peasy.

What games are you playing, you old farts? :)

Fancy revealing your age and the PC/video/console games you like to indulge in?

I'm 72 and I play Elite Dangerous every day - I've been playing this game for 10 years and I hope I've got another 10 left.

I've been a gamer since 1984 and I was playing the original Elite back then too and I've played nearly every genre but nothing keeps my attention for long now.

I play mostly strategy games now as my reactions are very slow with shooters even on rookie settings.

I've got a Steam Deck and an X Box S but I mainly play on my PC as I prefer mouse and joystick - I have trouble using a controller now as I have arthritis in my hands.

It may seem sad to younger folk, but my PC is my window to the world as I don't get out much now and gaming is my only hobby.

Thank you for sharing that Spartax.

In 1976/77, when I was 16, I built a TV Tennis game from components using the circuit diagram from ETI magazine. (Electronics Today International if I remember correctly).. Even etched my own pcb. If I'm not mistaken that was the very start of video games. (Correct me if I'm wrong). Cost me just as much as it would have done to buy it ready made and working from a shop. It took me at least 3 months to undo and rectify my shoddy soldering back then to get the bloody thing working:)

Nowadays I only play on my PC. Toying with the idea of getting a console. Only slightly though. PC gaming can be buggy and troublesome. But I kinda enjoy that self flagellation :)

Absolute Salute to you Sir. I tried Elite And Dangererous for 20 minutes. It's a heck of a complicated button pressing process to start with. Steep learning curve. I gave up at that. I'm sure it is am engrossing game and wish I'd persevered.

I'm not that far off 60.

age dont matter so long as you enjoy your self

Yup.

Anyway, my go-to games are Far Cry (interestingly this will only run on my Intel Arc system - it doesn't like modern Nvidia GPUs), Borderlands 2 (I've stalled on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands), Command & Conquer 3, and Freespace 2, though I've not played that in some months. I've been trying to get into driving games but I'm not there yet.

Like @Spartax I can see the effects of age, and using a trackball doesn't help.

One year shy, DCS playing helicopters is my main game but also do a lot of Hunt Showdown, 7 days to die, Assetto Corsa(just getting into this). Fill in games are world of tanks, heat, gunner, pc and a TINY bit of Star Citizen.
But DCS heli's is where my heart lies :)

47 here so not quite up there with you guys but I can only imagine what old peoples homes will be like in the next 10 years or so. instead of sitting around playing cards, knitting, bingo. It will be modded PC case with loads of Led lights, death Metal/techno, performing Tiktok videos, rage quitting Fifa or Cod.

might train to be a health care assistant so I can see al this in a few years. :D

I have an uncle that gamed well into his 60s. I built his last rig for him. In fact he even joined the occasional gaming night with me and my mates when I was in university.

I've often thought similar for their entertainment. I've watched the days of sing-a-long to Dame Vera Lynne go as that generation are all dead, and now it's Elvis tribute acts. One day there will be Miley Cyrus tribute acts twerking for demented old men. I hope I'm dead before that happens to me

I'm 57 and been a gamer since sneaking into arcades in the early eighties. I'm currently playing Far Cry 6 and WatchDogs Legion on a PC, as well as occassional Mario games on the Switch.

62 and been PC gaming for 40 years. Gone through most genres in that time but mainly first person action RPG/FPS in the last 10 years. Never got into the multiplayer online world though.

due to me/cfs (chronic energyloss) I mainly play arpg like d3, grim dawn, path of exile nowadays.
Used to be an ace in fps shooters but requires to much attention for me nowadays.
Played a lot in the vic20 era 40 years ago.
Played the battlefield series up to bf4, won competition in BC2.
Everquest back in 1999 when people didnt even had 3D graphic cards and had to buy them for the game.

Gaming today with 4k oleds and what not is a glorious time to play especially the upcoming path of exile 2.

Me too Quartz. And Far CRy 6 is being played at the moment. I wish I had waited a little longer before I played it, as I'll be getting a new PC soon, one minute my GTX980 is letting me play games with ultra settings, the next minute, everything is on medium, with low Vram warnings lol. I needed something to play though, Probate & everything that goes with it is slowly killing me.

I'm 62, and perhaps the youngsters have forgotten that we are the first gaming generation. So of course we still game. I tend to play only a few new games each year, most of which I never finish because reasons. Then I go back to playing something made by Bethesda...

So currently rotating between Skyrim (AE plus about twenty mods), Fallout 4 (plus about thirty mods) and occasionally Last Epoch. Sometimes back to Diablo 3, even more rarely other diablo-alikes such as Path of Exile and Grim Dawn. Also trying Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. Got bored with Bioshock Remastered, Prey (2017), No Man's Sky, Wolfenstein The New Order, ARK, etc etc.

60.. how does that happen? Apart from getting up, one day at a time and not quite managing to die.

This week I've played Diablo3 a bit... not paying an arm and a leg for Diablo4, but the loot & shoot itch needed scratching. My iRacing and flight sim days are long behind me now. Life's increasingly short, so I play my guitar more and walk and watch sunsets rather than pixels.

I did buy Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition in the Steam Sale (I'm so old I can remember when Steam Sales were almost exciting) but it's not grabbed me the way that genre used to. It's nicely tarted up though. I sank a million hours (approx) into Cossacks back in the day (don't ask me which day it was though... it's increasingly a blur!)

Not sure I'm playing anything else at the moment. But I have a Borderlands 2 habit which resurfaces every once in a while... the draw of familiar challenges, or reassuring climbs up the loot ladder. Same goes for some (but not all!) Far Cry games. I like exploring familiar territory.

I have Wolcen Lords of Whatever bought and downloaded too, to help with the Diablo itch. Haven't tried it yet. New systems aren't the challenge they used to be back in my Jane's flight sim manual reading days!

I also have Fallout76 and not played it. Big fan of the Fallout series. But not a big fan of online interaction. I read it's not a big factor, and avoidable, but... one day I'll download it and dip my toe in. Usually save new games for when I need to lose a few pounds though. Getting involved in a game for an hour or two is as good a way of distracting my appetite as I've ever found.

Generally though, I'm trying to play guitar, walk, stare at sunsets and sit in silence a lot more, and game less. The worst thing about being old (apart from the nothing working quite like it should) is losing so many people you care for. Makes it harder for me to sit staring at screens for as long as I used to. I'm increasingly aware that time's precious. Which is a sad old cliché, but no less true.

Having said that, I'm in a hurry to finish typing this so I can watch the end of series one of Yellowstone... which is excellent. Those pixels are so darned tempting!:)

Edit: you will notice the other thing about getting old... forgetting what you wrote at the start of the post and repeating it. Now, why did I come into this forum again? <wanders off>
