Hey, im looking to build a gaming PC for around £600. So far i have found:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K
GPU: HIS HD 7950 3072MB
PSU: OcUK Crusade 550W
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX2 Intel Z77
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 8GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
Case: Cooler Master Elite 335U Case
Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2

Total: £624.92

I've already got a DVD drive and win7 sitting around so apart from that am i missing anything? This will be my first build in about 7 years so im a bit rusty.

I'm a bit unsure on the PSU, is there anything better out there for the price range or will this psu suffice? Im considering OCing the gfx and processor. Also was a bit unsure on the case as theres loads of options out there as well, so any recommendations are welcomed. Aside from these if anyone wants to give me any better options for anything i can stretch the budget about £50ish.

Cheers.

Reckon the AMD build is better than the I5? Also im not to fussed with a SSD (probably because i've never had one). So could save some money there. Is it worth the difference?

SSD are def worth it. I would go with the AMD built.

if you spend any time in windows i say ssd yeh
your i5 build i like, for gaming right now, it would be the fastest
the psu is junk, the case bit ugly inside but who cares with side on
ssd puts u over budget but hm

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seagate SSHD 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DX001) SSHD Hybrid Drive £68.99
1 x Seasonic G series 450w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £65.99
Total : £145.48 (includes shipping : £8.75).

these new hybrids meant to be good :) you can get a 2tb one for 90... bargain!

Please make sure your optical drive is Sata. IDE has been dropped from modern mobos so if you need a Sata ODD might as well order one now rather than have to pay shipping for one later. You are quite right to query the PSU you picked it's not great to be honest. The Corsair CX range is the minimum to consider really. 500W is ample for a single GPU rig with overclocking to be fair, a modular PSU would be nice too ;)

If you are a little savvy with your cash you can do quite well. As Tammzy pointed out the HIS 7950 gives you free P&P on the order, it also gives you a choice of free games too which is nice.

Mobo is B grade so has a shorter warranty and might be missing sata cables etc. It is however the best entry level Z77 mobo available and there is quite a saving (£30) from buying one new. Check with customer services as to what is inc. with the mobo.

The CPU is OEM so again has a shorter warranty and no stock heatsink. As there is quite a difference in price over the retail (which is OOS) we can forget about the stock heatsink anyway and use the saving to get you a nice cooler for overclocking :)

The case again is B grade and there is only the one up for grabs. It's a nice case and again there is a reasonable saving on it. It should come with a pair of 120mm fans and it has a side window to help show off the interior.... You might notice there is a nice blue theme going on. With the GPU and Mobo PCBs being blue to match, I've also used RAM which has blue LEDs should you fancy it.

Best of luck with the build bud, any more questions or god forbid problems come build day you know where to find us :D

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys, I really like the look of Hono's build though, and have enquired already about the B grade products. I've got a PC here which i can salvage for wires and such so shouldnt be much of a problem.

One other question though, do you guys think it would be worth looking at the hybrid SSD drives? i dont think i can afford both the HDD and SSD seperately but this looks like it could be a good middle ground?

ITs a question of price really...

The Hybrid drives a £93 (normally £100) for a 1TB drive..

Whereas a standard 1TB HDD will cost £54 then £85 for an SSD (120GB) which will be much better.

its cool^^
yeh mine too as thats what i use but i think an extra 20pounds for a drive thats twice as fast in most stuff, its a no brainer to me

then id get a ssd later on when i had more money, 250gb is a nice size for a ssd
not sure how you get by with a 64gb one, im guessing thats just for windows and all games on spinny drive

OK managed to thrash out a build from the advice here :) Would just like a last minute check before i press that order button tomorrow. Is there any compatability issues or is there anything you guys would change about this build? I'm gonna OC it and will only be using it for gaming and £720 is my absolute limit for any adjustments however.

I also considered a 8320 and OCing it with watercooling, but would i be right in saying that OCing the i5 will yield better performance? especially after i pay for the cooler and a decent motherboard it just seemed like the i5 priced around the same considering the expensive cooler that the amd would require.

Just a few final questions: I've Heard good things about seasonic, but s that PSU good enough for OCing gpu and the haswel? and does it have the right connectors for the 7950? Also does anyone know if the free cooler provided with the mobo comes with thermal paste or should i buy some? Finally is that the best windowed case i can get within budget? i've got some LED's here that i wanna use to light up the case.

Thanks again for all the help guys :)
