60hz > 120/144hz?

how do you find the colour/contrast stuff?

Out the box the colours were drab, this is well documented and I was aware of this even before the monitor arrived. Every review, even the 5 star ones pick this up, but I had the optimal settings ready to change straight away. These are available all over the place. Its just a few tweaks in the monitors on-screen display itself regarding the brightness, contrast, gamma etc etc. and after that it's perfect. It's absolutely, in no way, going to compete with a high end IPS panel for colour reproduction. Those who don't understand the main reason people by 144hz monitors don't quite seem to get their head around this. I have both ( a Dell 27" IPS, and they both have their place, I couldn't imagine gaming on it though)

id rather have one that can do its intended job out the box rather than overclocking etc.

I can assume hope he was joking, it's not really a viable option at all. This is more for people wanting to get a little more out their IPS panel opposed to someone wanting to but an out and out gaming monitor.

The problem when upgrading by resolution is that often the pixel density is not always much better than the original monitor because the screen is bigger too so it doesn't feel like much of an upgrade.

Also 144Hz monitors can be had at a reasonable price. 1440p monitors are not much less than a 4K monitor.
