60hz monitors and frame tearing advice

Hi all,

I recently helped a friend get into PC gaming on a budget, and as a result he has a cheaper 'gaming' monitor which although has 1ms response time, only is 60hz with no freesync / gsync.

I've always had high refresh rate monitors / G-sync and so have never had problems with tearing in the past.

The first game we tried was Doom, and with a constant 100+fps the tearing was horrible. With V-sync on the input lag was also horrible.

Perhaps I've been spoilt in the past with high refresh rate monitors and G-Sync etc, but I don't ever recall seeing frame tearing as bad as we experienced on doom with his setup.

Is this game particularly bad for tearing, or is there anything I can do to mitigate either the tearing with v-sync off, or the input lag with v-sync on?

One last query is does having borderless windowed mode / fullscreen have any bearing on tearing?

Thanks for your advice in advance,

Pes x

Overclock it to 75hz might make it a little better? what is the monitor?

Thanks - I think I'll look into this - I'm not sure what the monitor is exactly until I go back around my friends house.

To overclock it do I just create a custom resolution in nvidia control panel?

Thanks
