6300 + DS4 At 3.5 Gigs

So whats the point in folding if your processor is producing incorrect computations? I wouldn't like to think my processor was responsible for missing a cure for a cancer(ok thats extreme!) because I was 'seeing if it works', especially knowing its failed Prime. Much better to do a longer stint of prime imo, if it fails its making an error therefore its UNSTABLE - period. A 2 hr pass of prime is indicitive of a basic stress test nothing more, note the cpu and system temp on a 2 hr run then note it on a 12 hr run. System temps I'm sure you are aware also play an important role in stability.

Good job I use old WUs which have already been returned and terminate them before they complete and upload ;)

Its all very well saying you have had a pc pass prime but fail folding and vice versa, if it fails either it is unstable and should be addressed not ignored.

In my experience, if a PC can fold for two days without any problems, it is stable enough for anything I want it to do. Other people want their rigs to be Prime stable and are happy with that. If they're happy with that then that's fine by me.
I prefer my rigs to be F@H stable - regardless of whether they are Prime stable or not. I only use a 2 hour Prime test to get a rough idea of the stability before I waste my time trying the Folding test or attempt to overclock further.

Its the age old debate on how people test for stability and there are no hard and fast rules to this, what works for one may not for the other. You have your means of testing and I have mine. Best to just leave it at that before this thread goes even further of topic than it already is.

Quoted for truth :)

Stable or not I want that CPU Asguard as a £150 conroe that does 3.5 gig quite an achievement.

Me too. I was going to buy an E6700 but seeing these results, I want a go at one of these :D

Stan :)

Just an odd question about stability testing using Prime95...

Having not used Prime for a couple of years (overclocking a TbredB) I'm curious as to the options The Asgard/Easyrider/etc. are using: it would appear that you're all using short FFTs or whatever they are which is a test of the CPU: shouldn't you all be using the mixed test to give the memory a good grilling, too?

Apologies if I have misunderstood some of the specs being posted (i.e. RAM run out of sync, etc.) but some of us oldies need things pointing out to us... :(

And Prime certainly isn't the be-all-and-end-all of testing as previously posted. I've had systems pass eight hours of both short, long and mixed FFT lengths and still unable to run 3Dmark2k1. It's one part of a very large jigsaw. Nothing more, nothing less.

And besides, it's much easier to Photoshop screenshots of running times without horsing around with system clocks, etc.

Nice overclocks, everybody, however - you're testing my restraint. :D

I do small FFT

Large FFT

And Blend

I then run 03/05/06 and s&m

Then I run over my pc in my car and if its still stable tehn I'm happy.

Is this a retail or ES chip you're using asgard?

/Edit, Give it a rest easyrider, you paid 280 for your chip and asgard paid what, 135? And they perform basically the same. I can understand why you're annoyed but drop it. It's like your boring nvidia fanboyism all over again.

Its just a bog standard OEM chip m8 that I purchased from OcUK. I bought 2 oems 1 from another distri and the other chip looked like it would do the same. Never pushed the other but got 3.4 from it at default from a quick play.

If you plan on using a 6300/6400 I would defo go for a DS4. I have a P5W DH and that can't touch the DS4 for max FSB or Memory Bandwidth on these chips. Only managed 400 with my 3.5 chip on a P5W although I never tried turning the hyper off. These chips really do need a good board to shine.
