Just about to buy an 8800gts, should I go for the 640mb or 320mb, and price is really important (as low as possible). Also want to be able to play ET:Quake Wars at awesome FPSs :D

I play at resolutions of 1680x1050 and am a hardcore gamer :(

I currently have a dud card and am looking to upgrade / silence (will RMA this and sell the new one on after)

TY for help

Either the EVGA or the BFG.

Both great cards and both come overclocked out the box.

If you want to save a little money you could go for the Leadtek and overclock it yourself.... Just seen the price  £229.11! Bargin!

2vs10 year warrenty though, damn it's a tricky decision.

I'm siding towards EVGA for the step-up program, though I doubt I'd make use of it.

Atm it is about equal or slightly better than a 8800gts but has lots of bugs
that let it down in some games. Once ati sort out the drivers it will most likely
pull away from the gts but that could take a few months of drivers.

yea but there are roumours that couldn't be fixed with drivers only with redesigned core (R650)

Yea they certainly have there issues but on pure horsepower the hd 2900xt
has more than an 8800 gts. Tbh i ain't sure drivers can fix the aa probs but
if they can it will be a very fast card for the money. If you want to play safe
8800 gts is a great card but if you want to take a risk on having more
performance in the future i think the hd2900xt is a pretty good bet ati are
far more reliablke when it comes to drivers.

Well, ordered a 640mb EVGA AS3 KO etc (trying to silence my PC).

It's coming on monday  :D

Nice. a lot of people seem to ask whether they should get the 320 or the 640, but I just say get which ever one you can afford. If you can afford the 640, I wouldn't really bother with the 320 (unless of course you really arnt a gamer/hard user).

I play @ 1600x1200 and the 320MB GTS is more than sufficient. Kinda silly inferring this card isn't for gamers.

Kinda wanted to ask the same question as I'm upgrading soon, so instead of a new thread I'd just ask here, so apologise for semi-hijacking.

If I play at max resolution of 1440x900 widescreen, then is there any point getting a 640mb card over a 320mb card? Other than the obivous "I may get a new monitor with a higher res at some point". As from what I can see and have read, the 640mb card only becomes advantageous when using it at higher resolutions... or does it also matter for lower resolutions when using lots of AA samples?

320MB will be fine, even with lots of AA.
If you upgrade to a bigger monitor, by then a faster card might be out :)

Leadtek 8800 640

I got my Leadtek 8800 640 on Monday, and I must say I'm very happy with it. It plays Colin Mcrea Dirt at Ultra settings (apart from the buggy level, which can be a bit choppy when all the cars are in a pack)

I tried the Nvidia demos like Adrianne, and its so very nice.

This card is very quite too.

I did consider ther 2900 XT and the 8800 GTS 320MB and decided the 640MB version was the best overall (price, reliabillity etc)

Cheers
