64gb Flash drive showing as 57.6gb

I would expect it has been sold as 64 SI GB, however computers use binary which means you have 64,000,000,000 bytes (aka 64GB) as the drive actual size and that divided down in binary is 64,000,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 which is 59.6GiB (note the extra i as this is a gibibyte).

Not sure where the other ~2GiB went though...

It's been a long time since I formatted a flash drive so I have probably come across this before. It's a Kingston Data traveler micro.

At least that's cleared it up, I will have to remember this for the future.

Storage capacity is always rounded up or down. It also depends on the filesystem. I've got an 8Tb HDD in my NAS but it's really about 7.7Tb.

I used to buy 720Kb floppy disks in the 90s but when I formatted them on my Amiga they were 880Kb because of the different filesystem.

Thats good thanks, I didn't know that about floppy disks. The good old Amiga.:)

Shouldn't it show as the full amount? Its formatted to NTFS does windows not show it properly? when it was Fat32 it showed it at 57.7gb.
if the drive new? some time you can loose little bites when making boot keys and stuff like that. you can reclaim the unused space via command prompt

i have a few 15gb driver that show up as about 14.8 ish but after a few good with rufus they can should as little as 12gb.
