65" on a stand vs 75" wall mounted?

Hi, It's time to update my 55" TV. I'm sticking with Sony, and my options are:
  • Sony 65" A80L for £2,499
  • Sony 77" A80K for £2,999 (or waiting for a deal)

Currently, the 55" TV is on top of a media unit. Still, I have space to wall mount it. The trouble is, from a seated position, there's very little difference between a 65" wall mounted and my current 55" on a stand. So, to feel more "immersed" when watching a movie, I can put the 65" A80L on the media unit or mount an older 77" A80K on the wall.

So, the question is, 65" on stand vs 75" wall mounted? - there's not much in it! Help me decide?! :)

I'd be more concerned with the sofa facing at the wrong wall for TV watching :p

Go for the largest set possible within the range you want. A 77" is a huge upgrade size wise over a 65", with a 65" looking tiny these days.

I have an 85" Sony X9096 wall mounted in one lounge 4.5m away and a 77" LG OLED in the other lounge 3.6m away. I wouldn't dream of going smaller for each of those viewing distances.

In your sketch, that TV unit looks pretty tall. If like most units, it's around 800mm off the ground then I would retire it and get something lower so your TV can be mounted at the correct height, without having to look upwards at it.

> Hehe, it's a corner sofa! Although, it's funny you say that. When the room was being designed the original idea was to mount the tv on the other wall. That way, a smaller TV would suffice. But, I was "outvoted"...

Ok great, at 4m I'd definitiely get a 77", it'll give a great experience in 4k.

We did the same and have a TV on an 800mm high unit until I can get it onto the wall and bring the short 400mm high unit through. It will do for the time being for you and you can enjoy the TV fo the time being.

A new audio system is on the shopping list. The current setup is a Wharfedale DX-1 5.1 and Sony amp. I intend to replace both with a soundbar, like the Sony HT-A3000.

Good good, going for a decent ATMOS soundbar system is a good way to go these days.

I've sold my 7.2 setup and moved to Soundbar systems in each lounge. I personanly wouldn't both with that Sony, it's pretty expensive and only comes with a soundbar unit. For a similar price (£650) you can get the Samsung Q930b that comes with the soundbar, wireless sub and wireless rear speakers. Each of these just needs power.

It's a great product and far superior to most of these cheap AV separate systems. I honestly don't miss my full setup, and think the Q930b/Q990b setups sound better overall (other than the dual 12" subs :p).

A Sony 77" A84K is on its way! £2800.

The Samsung Q30b looks sweet but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a Sony HT-A3000 for £299 (albeit Refurbished). I don't need a sub and the rears will come later :)

I also picked up some Philips Hue ceiling lights for £350.

My wallet is done for but I still need to get a TV stand!
