In the market for a new TV as the trusty 10yr old Sony 55W905 finally popped.

It's on the wall currently so a 55" replacement is easy however I keep getting carried away with a 65" as sofa is further away than than what is recommended for a 55"

The chimney/wall is 142cm wide but all 65" are around 144cm or wider. Would you buy a 65" and have it slightly wider than the chimney wall or not?

yes and fit a couple of speakers either side of the breast, so it won't look so weird so it doesn't look so "sticky outy" and less likely to be hit by something or catch.

The TV is mounted on the wall. Not sure I can add speakers to the sides halfway up the wall.

I wouldn't, an overlap will look awful imo. But then it it literally is 2cm more, that's only 1cm each side. It might look ok, but I think you need a tiny bit of wall around it to not look a bit....I dunno...off and untidy.

It was the safest height I could fit to, the fireplace I've no idea how it was filled in but it sounded very hollow lower with possibly very thin plasterboard.

edit: I found a few articles that state a 55" would be 61" from floor to centre. I just measure mine and I'm not far off to be honest.

HOW HIGH SHOULD A 55-INCH TV BE MOUNTED?

A 55” TV should be around 61 inches from the floor to the center of the TV screen.

Thanks mate, I will be going for a 65" but now realised the sound bar fittings will probably be where some of the TV is going to be now. So will have to remove, fill holes, then relocate the soundbar.

Currys got a 20% off selected LG TVs meaning the LG Oled G2 is under £1400 if TCB tracks too. Very tempted.

can't be any worse than some chavs putting a 100" BUSH TV on a 40" bedside chest in their 4x4ft living room
Nothing wrong with doing that :D but in my case it is a 50" TV mounted on a bed frame retractable mount designed for 32" maximum size screens!!! Needless to say it won't go back down into the foot of the bed & does sit on top of the actual bed foot (which actually gives it better support). For what the bed cost me when I bought it & the cost of replacing it, I can deal with it not retracting (never retracted it when it had a 32" panel on it anyway). I can't help being a CHAV:D:D:D:D:D:cry:
