Been look at finally getting a new or newer TV.
Im still running an old 1080p panny VT50 plasma.

So I want a bigger screen and 4k, my Friend has a Panasonic TX-65DX902B 65" which is nice but not now available new!
So I know everything is oled now, but I have a kid that pauses TV for long periods, plus they are very expensive.

So realistically im looking for a modern TV thats not oled and performs at least as well as older
Panasonic TX-65DX902B 65" models.
Can anyone point me at a few that I can shortlist?
Thanks

Panasonic or Hisense. Hisense with more budget-oriented offers.

Get the
Sony BRAVIA KD65XF9005BU
£1499 with 6 year warranty.

It has a true 10bit panel the LG 65SM9010PLA 65 only have 8bit+2bit FRC.

Also watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmUqFUYkyBw this is the reality of these screens also they are IPS not VA, coming from plasma as I did you will hate IPS. Go check the Sony out instore and compare to LG and Samsung and I'm sure you will come out with the Sony. As the image is natural colour and the motion is killer compared to the rest. HDR is also amazing on the TV I have the 75" version and think it is much better than the Plasma I had before and this is someone coming from a Pioneer Plasma and Panasonic. I didn't want to go with OLED because of the known issues which I will not repeat as the OLED fans (which I am too) will cry murder when I give the reality of any emissive screens and the reality of an organic emissive screen is even worse than Plasma for reliability and longevity.

Kids OLED disaster if you like your gear. Go instore and see the screens and remember the IPS screens are never going to be as good for TV and movie content compared to VA which has better blacks, IPS is grey blacks no matter what they say about nanocell rubbish. IPS is only good for computer screens in my book and in recent times I'm even considering changing my computer super wide screen to a VA type.

Same guy Sony TV XF90 review

Just remember he reviewed if before the Oreo update that makes the menu much much better and has the Dolby Vision update too.

If you have a plasma you want something that can offer true HDR and also decent blacks. If OLED is a no-no then it has to be something with FALD. These tv's aren't cheap the XF90 linked to is likely the cheapest decent "upgrade" anything cheaper will be a downgrade even if it is 4K. Higher res =/= better quality.

So what is your budget?

Q90R or OLED.

I'm trying to make a similar decision and struggling.

I would go OLED in most cases. I amusingly went opposite way picking up the 65" QLED, but have a bright room, ambient lights in the evening and prefer the better peak brightness of the QLED, but for a majority of people, I expect the OLED will work better.

Went into currys today. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the. I think this could be my next TV
SONY BRAVIA KD65XG9505BU 65"

very good TV it's the newer version of the XF90.

it's probably the entry level into a good FALD though. So you get high specs but low price. so you get like 90% of the benefits without 90% of the costs.

not as good as an OLED but they are more expensive and again need to be looked after still for static images

The XF90 I mentioned to you is basically the same tv apart from the following.

1. new remote

2. new legs colour

3. new processor ultimate instead of extreme

4.eARC instead of ARC

5. less motion control settings in the menu compared to XF90 (downgrade)

and most important £300 normally more for that. Image quality is exactly the same.

Happy you went to see them first hand and I was sure you would like the Sony over the LG and Samsung offering coming from plasma. I would just get the XF90 and spend the £300 on a soundbar or some AV gear or 4K UHD player.

Yeah definitely looked nicer than the LG and it was next to a similar priced Qled and I thought the Sony definitely had a picture I preferred. They had 55" out and it did look very similar. They are the 2 on my shortlist. Now I just need to wait till there's a special offer on one of them as I do love a bargain lol

So I've still not pulled the trigger on a TV yet! Though with the recent price drops I'm keenly looking at the Sony KD65XG9505BU.

Bit of a curve ball, but how does the older panasonic TX-65DX902B TV stand up against the Sony? I know its a couple of years old, but have a m8 selling one at a reasonable price.

Thoughts please????

go to rtings - that is all you need to do to shortlist tv's and read reviews.

compare them both on rtings

I'm going to be honest, if you're coming from a Panny Plasma and not going OLED, you are going to end up being disappointed.
