Hi all

Going to invest in a new pc.£650 budget. No need for monitor etc just the rig itself. Will use win7 for now.
What would you recomend?
Would be for gaming mainly and general use.No FPS just RTS etc.Rather be as futurproof as possible(i know it will never happen.Need to get 2-3 years out of it.Can upgrade it as needed)
Thinking AMD route but any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Any use:

Don't waste your cash if you don't have to, save it, put it in a bank and when you need more power, get urself new gpu or another one for CF for almost no cash and a quad for silly price ( AM3 socket will support all the newest AMD cpu's for quite a bit of time yet, probably even the 6 and 8 core ones ).

----
EDIT:
Just read the comment about monitor:

If you could stretch out the budget by small bit and get
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-098-SA
on top of that : ).

Or ring up OCuk and ask when they http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-082-SA&groupid=17&catid=948&subcat= again in stock ; ).

---
And you can get away without the soundcard if you don't care much about the sound quality or just don't have any half decent speakers and onboard is enough for you.

What's up with all those 4890s
Does any of you actually know what kind of game an RTS is ? ; ).
He could just as well use some of the 30quid cards and they will probably be fine ; ).

Bit over but with a great 22 inch lcd....these prices might be a bit lower now though as this list is 1 week or so old.(i know you said no need for a monitor but 19 inch is too small for gaming in my view :p )

I dont usually game on the highest settings either.I only have a 19 inch samsung monitor because it looks very nice on the desk next to my 40 inch tv.lol.
Any bigger will look out of proportion on my desk for the moment. It is fine for me currently. It was a present off the missus so if i get rid 9 months later that me in the dog house :( .

Yeah i dont play sup com yet but may ive it a try when i build new rig.Heard it is a beast on hardware tho.
I would like to be able to play titles coming out in the next year like C&C4 etc.Again it doesnt need to be on the highest settings.
I prefer gameplay over graphics( but if i can have both :) )

There are some nice specs here. For gaming am i better going tri core or quad.??

Thanks

Now as you have said you are not changing form a 19" screen I have included a 4850 and come in £100 under budget. You could move up to a 4890 if you wish to become more "future proof" or if you decide to upgrade you monitor or connect your PC to the TV :D

TBH a 4850 is probably overkill for a 19" but meh :D

Quad is you better option for the future of gaming as games are slowly starting to utilise all 4 cores.

Looks quite good m8.

Yeah i may just get a 4870 or 4890 just to be a bit more futureproof coz as you say i may get a new monitor or connect it to my T.V . :)

Thanks for the spec

No worries, obviously you can do what you want but if you have the money a 4890 would be the best bet, bigger HDD, blue ray drive, better case. Just pick what you think you need most. :D

id jut use my ps3 for blu ray anyway.Im toyin with the idea of a 2nd hard drive or external hard drive for storage. My Harddrive has failed and i lost all my music dvds etc everything so i may get a small HDD as my primary and keep all my music etc on the secondary.dunno yet tho :)

AM2+ CPUS will not fit in AM3 boards.

The ASUS M3A79-T is a fantastic AM2+ mobo and is selling for £90 on another well known etailer of computer hardware. Its a 790FX chipset and is basically a bargain.
