Time to upgrade.. had a E65 last time and never used half the features it had although grew to love it in the end (after the firmware update !) a samsung E900 before that and sony ericsons 750i etc before those.

So this time I want style and usability over gadget, small slim and nice to use. Don't care about music playing (have an ipod nano for that) don't care for anything more than a basic camera to take the odd snap on (have a proper digi camera for that)

I've narrowed it down to the above, any thoughts ?

Will be using it with a tomtom unit for hands free and trafic info, also would love to be able to use the googlemail app.

I have the U600, and after the novilty has worn off you soon realise it's not ideal.

Much preffer sony erricsons for little things, like changing what the soft keys do etc.

So to be honest, I'd avoid. Unless you want to look cool and don't care about the phone

I tried out a SE W890i for a week. It's got googlemaps as an application preinstalled and it's a great little phone. I just personally found it too small for my big fingers to text with. And i'm sure googlemail would work fine. I couldn't believe how small it was.

The small buttons are a bit of a worry on the 890i for me.. not so much that they are small but that they are small and very low down on the phone making one handed texting quite awkward ?

Looking around there is little negative stuff about the 890i and the 6500 classic seems to have negative stuff about battery life and stability. Think I need to take a trip to an 02 shop and have a feel :)

not the U600, I had one and never got on with it, many folks I know have had reliability issues with them

What about the G600 or U700 if you're leaning towards a Samsung? I've started using my fiancee's old U600 and have flashed it to the latest generic firmware. Works lovely for the basics and its like its not there in your pocket. Don't mind the touch buttons either. There's an improved U600 in black with haptic feedback on touch buttons too.

However, it does have an awfully slow (but good quality) camera and the MP3 player is a similar story off a memory stick. I'm happy with it purely because it's so slim and light, but if I wanted functionality beyond calling and texts I'd be stuffed... Although you've said you're no longer interested in gadgets. As I said, look at the G600 and U700 too.

There's a G800 too apparently.
