I was specifically looking at getting one of the LG range of OLEDs (b9,c9,e9) but came across the Panasonic range, specifically the TX 65gz950b.
Its around the same price and the picture quality is superb. Unfortunately they were not side by side, playing the same content as that would have been a good test

Is the c9 still a better tv?

The picture is considered better on the Panasonic and it has both Dolby Vision and HDR10+

However the C9 has HDMI 2.1 on all 4 ports so is the better choice in terms of potential future proofing

I would imagine next years HZ950 will have it all... but there’s always something new coming.

if you want something now, plan to keep longer than a few years and add a next gen console then I would probably go for the C9

If the picture and sound is better on the Panasonic, why not get it instead? I though there isnt much point in hdmi 2.1 at the moment as there isnt any content available.
I have a 34” widescreen gsync monitor for (pc) gaming

The features from the 2.1 mostly useful just for gaming imo.

I'm trying to decide between these 2 as well.

TV is currently only used for Sky Q and Apple TV but I might jump back in to console gaming next year so can't decide whether to get the LG or not. What difference does the HDMI 2.1 actually make for console gaming?

Having seen one in the flesh, I'd go for the panny, the picture quality blew me away, having said that, the LG's have WebOS which is without a doubt the best TV os imo, so its swings and roundabouts..

Looks like the LG problems still exist, firmware is a work around, not fixable in firmware, so another reason to go for the Panasonic.

If the Panasonic handle blacks and macro blocking, best to go for that.

The Lg also has Earc via hdmi 2.1, extended audio return channel, which is great if you have a separate sound system. You now get the full bandwith sound codecs , dolby atmos etc from any inbuilt tv apps, netflix etc. Previous arc is limited to dolby digital and dts etc.

I dont own one but am waiting for any further black friday drops on a C9.

Wouldn't need earc myself.

Read review and watch on the gz950 superior to the LG for PQ.

Not disputing that and i prefer Panasonic, my last 4 TV's have been pannys. But Lg has features i'd consider deal breakers in my next Tv and dont plan on upgrading for at least 5 years.

Vrr and Earc are important to me, given they mostly wont be on others till 2020 and then a wait till the end of 2020 for prices to hit reasonable levels, then its really only Lg.

Samsung Qleds have a version of Vrr on hdmi 2.0 and the Q90s look great but quite expensive and i think i want actual Oled.

Am worried about Lg build quality and reliability, so a 5 year warranty is a must.

Depends on usage vrr are for gaming basically fresync/g-sync, no need for that on TV.

Earc if you use built in apps for hd audio and Atmos. If you have other sources that go into a avr that earc isn't needed

I have both Xbox one X and my gaming PC attached to the TV although burn in is a worry, but that wouldn't be any different on other Oleds , so VRR is a good feature for now, theres also bandwidth i.e. 120 hz 4k , 60hz 4k without yuv compromises , some features more for the future but something i'd like on a TV.

Earc is definitely a feature i want, although i can get 4k Netflix / Amazon with Dolby Digital at the mo via the Telly , i cant get HDR on my older Panny, if I want HDR and Atmos or DD+ then i need to use something like Xbox one, but have to turn on / sign in .. which is slow and then control via game controller is a hassle i'd prefer to do without.
