Behind you... Naked!
Have asked many times, never had a reply.

Does anyone have or have they ever had a pair of 6600GTs to SLI?

I managed it once.

Never been able to since and this was months ago...

Anyway, I got 2 Mobos to try out, both do exactly the same thing

Foxconn NF4SK8AA-8EKRS
ASUS A8N-SLI ( Basic model )

Mobo BIOSes are fully up to date.
Mobo Drivers are NForce v6.86
Graphic Drivers are ForceWare v94.24

The most interestign reply I have had from Foxconn is that the reason it wont SLI is becuse the SATA Drivers need updatingand they provided me with a link... I tried not to wet myself on that answer, but updated them all the same ( You never know ).

Not had a reply from ASUS yet

Not had a reply from NVIDIA's SLIZONE either.

Gigabyte have tried to help, but again, they wont help until I get a Gigabyte SLI Mobo, which is half understandable... Half not.

So, can anyone actually help me here?

Im actually thinking that SLI is a myth

LOL, its not a myth but that was 1st gen of cards on PCI-E and SLI ready. (6000's in general although 6800's were before 6600's).

I really cant think why it wont work if all mobo bios+drivers are upto date

What thave Gigabyte got to do with this, are the cards theirs as you aint said ?.

SLI is not a myth and it makes a hell of a diffrence so if you can get your problems sorted you should see an improvment of some sort.
my last card was a 6600gt but it was agp good card at the time.
hope you have some luck and get them to work SLI

cheers
D

I never did get a reply from NVIDIA's SLIZONE when I needed help, duck um

Cool. ok, cheers guys.

Right, Marse...

I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Mobo too!

Let me in on something here...

EXACTLY :-

what version Mobo Drivers are you on? - Mine are v6.86
What BIOS is your Mobo? - Mine is A8NSB014
What Drivers are your Cards running? - Mine are Forceware 94.24
What Version Firmware are your GFX CArds? - Mine is F2

If I run ANY other GFX Driver, then early versions dont see the cards and therefore I get VGA only... Any higher and the PC will BSOD as soon as card 2 starts up.

Using Microsoft Driver, or rather without any nVIDIA Graphic drivers, the PC does indeed see both cards as 6600GT's, and I dont get a yellow marker, but obviously, the display is poor.

Using NVidia old ones dont work the cards but then they become unknown VGA cards in the dev-manager.

Using newer nVIDIA drivers as I said... Crash the system either with a black or blue screen. When this happens, if I start the PC back up, I can get to the desktop, but as soon as it tried to re-start the video drivers... BANG, it goes again, forcing a safemode restart and uninstall *** drivers.

It does the VERY same thing on all 3 of my SLI Boards.

ASUS A8N-SLI
Foxconn NF4SK8AA-8EKRS
Gigabyte K8N

You have the ASUS so I can go on that no problem. What OS are you running? My Asus currently has XP Home on, but I alos have XP64 registered to that Mobo and I still have an unused Vista Ultimate 32 and Business 32 both lying dormant in the drawer in need of a PC to go on, but Id rather not go Vista cos its not for me yet.

Tell me how the hell you managed it ... PLEASE!!!!

Driver – Nvidia : 24.02.05 : Version 7.1.8.4

BIOS is as delivered, I haven’t needed to update.
Other than re-booting, which I will happily do, I don’t know how else to confirm the BIOS version.

You are going to have to point me in the right direction to locate most of this.

Mobo Drivers ?
I downloaded Nvidia Nforce 6.39 which I suspect must be what I used. Nvidia folder in C is 6.39.
6600 GT[X ?] Firmware ?

The PC was off the shelf but I re-formatted and put XPPro – 32 bit and all the drivers on so I must have got it right but it was a while back.

Give me some pointers and I should be able to get the info.
My MB is the Deluxe but hopefully you should still manage.

Edit: It came with XP Home on originally.

What SLI mobos was it you had to flip a small card on the mobo up the other way before Asus made it auto ?, also you can run SLI bridgeless now but you loose performance.

I had SLI 6600GT in the A8N-SLI board ( the standard one - not seluxe or premium ).

Worked fine and both were the Leadtek extreme editions :)

dude, you have installed the SLi bridge to link the cards havent you?

Yes, of course... All the Boards have the SLI flipper card thingy and yes, I have tried them in various ways and made sure they are seated right etc etc.

Also the strip bit that goes across on those goldfingers or whatever they are called... I have 4 of those...3 solid ones that are from each Motherboard, but also a flexible one too! - These too, I have tried to fit upside down and inside out etc... I dont think it makes ANY difference at all either way.

I got enough info for now... perhaps?

BIOS of Mobo = Stock... Ok, Iwill have a hunt for the original of mine then... Just in case?

To get the FIRMWARE of the card, and the BIOS for the Mobo, since you dont know how to do it, Id suggest not to worry about that... Plus as your GFX are different to mine, it wont make any difference if I knew it anyway. Had you the same cards as me then it might, but the Drivers are enough to go on for now... Cheers dude.

Yes, you can happily do without the bridge and yes, if you do, you lose performance, but the thign is, that I dont have any SLI at all without the PC giving me the finger.

Any chance of EMailing me a copy of your Mobo BIOS?

Thats the very same ASUS SLI Mobo I got.

Using Gigabyte 6600GTs though me

I havent got that board now mate im afraid

Did you plugh the molex into the mobo for the extra power?

Awww... Booger! ( Unluky Alf Voice )

Shame.

Anyway, yes, The ASUS has a warning light when you dont.
I had thought that maybe the contacts were not quite right, and even Maybe the PSU wasnt giving enough juice, but a 600W OCZ should be more than enuf.

I had the same problem with the same Foxconn boad but with 2x7300GTs. Turns out those particular nVidia drivers have issues of some sort - try getting the latest from their site, or the one down which definitely works (94.17 or something like that).

I meant that 94.24 are the ones that don't work properly with SLI, so you need the earlier ones.

Ah, ok.

Right, earlier that 94.24 I have, are

93.71 / 91.47 / 81.85 / 81.95 / 71.89 / 66.93 / 61.77 = BSOD
97.92+ = Black screen?

Versions below 6 dont see the cards

which versions should I try next?

OMFG I got it sorted.

Dont know exactly how, but while I was under Video Drivers 81.85 , I looked with Everest and I saw that it said the PC was SLI CAPABLE but it was DISABLED???

Never seen that one before.

The Main card was running and working as normal but the second card was as usual NOT STARTED.

WTF?

Anyway, I decided to take the second card out, and update to the very latest VGA Driver I have, which at this time, is 162.18... Now the last time I installed these, all I had was a black screen and it hung... The time before that, the very same drivers failed to find a device they could work with, and so the Display went back to VGA... Not even MicroSofts 6600GT Drivers.

Anyway, I upped it and it went in and on starting back up, I had proper display again!

Cool.

I put the second card back in and this time, and I put a second screen up to it. I never did see the second screen even flicker - not once, however, it went in ok... The PC found new hardware and a I forced it to the same 162.18 drivers and the screen went black, but this time it came back.

I checked the Control panel and SLI was in there and I was able to enable it and I did that and then after a restart it came up with the SLI IS ENABLED message in the bottom of the screen.

Right, this is on the Foxconn, so, what did I do...

I installed the very same drivers onto the ASUS...

NForce 6.86
ForceWare 162.18

... and did it work??? NOPE!
... The gigabyte then... Yes, that works, so why not the Asus?

So, what have I done then?

Right, well in my quest to get any on my PCs to SLI, I have installed, all kinds of junk to try to get them to work. I have taken the Raptor out of the Foxconn ( Cos even though its junked up to the 9's it works in SLI mode with the 6600GTs ) and I have created a custom CD with XP Pro ( Cos the Foxconn is XP home and its naughty and I have Pro and XP 64 assigned to that ). and I have intergrated the 6.86 and 162.18 drivers into the installation CD... See if that works with no outside influence on the foxconn and I will try the very same on the Asus.

Normally you'd get a popup in your system tray alerting you to this fact straight after installing the drivers, I guess that's why nobody suggested it. Not sure that the other issue is though, I guess it's an Asus thing...

Ok, the Asus is now sorted.

I have now intergrated the drivers into an installation CD of WinXP Pro SP2

Im using NForce 6.86 ( Chipset ) and ForceWare 162.18 ( VGA )

Im sure I ahve failed to get these sorted before, but they do work now.

Im thinking...

Did I have any hardware setup wrong?
If I did, and the SLI Card was the wrong way round, then the second Graphics card just gets ingored... It would not show up with a yellow marker?
It must have been some other driver issue... It must have been?

Previously with any drivers I tried, including the 162.18 Drivers, it would BSOD and / or hang with a black screen.... It did this on the asus and for a while I thougth that the board was duffed, hence me buying a second hand and a new preplacement.... Now all 3 are fine? - Go figure?

Hey, who cares, it works now.

Thanks for the help guys.

Later.
