67.2MPG, only half a tank of fuel, from Southampton to Edinburgh, 432 miles. Sticking to about 70 on the motorway...

8.5 year old Golf Diesel SE TDI 90bhp :)

That's not bad. I managed almost 45 between London and Edinburgh in the summer, until I went a bit mad on the A702 and it dropped to just under 40.

edit: In my old 1.8T A3.

That's impressive. Not got a computer, but worked out that my 2.5 V6 got over 40mpg on a recent trip. 10 miles for £1 - whatever that works out as mpg wise.

Was half a tank going by the gauge? Or by brimming the tank then brimming it again after you journey?

In my 2.5 V6 TDI I can generally get around 40MPG if you stick the cruise on at a "sensible";) speed. My average tends to be around 35-38MPG though.

I'd need at least 80mpg before I'd put up with a TDI 90 :p

Amen to that!

If thats motorway work its rubbish, I was getting pretty much that out of a 3 litre petrol. Try harder :p

On my daily drive to work I get around 18mpg :(

Old 3.2 liter XJ6 and hilly Oxfordshire B-roads don't mix so well :(

Off topic slightly, but Enstone?

That's about... 5 miles from me ;)

Some very nice roads around that area.

Well it may be pretty slow to accelerate (12s to 60, about a minute to 100) but it will do 124mph on the GPS on a very long Autobahn!

Got me in court for 100mph on M6, lasered from a km away :( = 5 points

Think I got done again on Friday going down @ 79mph, different place but laser van again = 3 points maybe

So today, didn't break the speed limit the entire journey and was amazed to get incredible mpg. However because it took me 2.5 HOURS longer than usual I had to stop for a meal so really it is cheaper to speed.

Sticking to 70 meant a LOT of lane changing and I was getting so so annoyed by the number of lorries who kept overtaking each other and taking literally a minute to move past. I mean seriously going an extra 0.1mph isn't going to make a lot of difference to journey time so why do they bother?
