Still in two minds what to do.

My current set up is as follows:

3570k
GTX 670 2Gb WF
8Gb Ram
Win 8.1 x64
1920x1200 resolution

I have been wrestling with the idea of a GTX 780 or going cheap on a second hand 670.

Is the 780 a large enough upgrade from a 670?

When are the new Nvidia cards due? Is it worth just waiting it out untill DX12 finally arives.

Is a 3570k good enough to drive a 780?

I came from sli 670 to a single 780. Minimum and average fps are about the same, max down a bit. Same res as you and vram wasn't a big problem in games i play. Benefits of the 780, less power used, less heat. Noise wasn't an issue as my 670's were wf models. Extra vram on the 780 will help if i move to higher res. Also, in a few games a 3570k will bottleneck a pair of 670's. Found this myself so moved to a 3770k which really helped.

So it seems the most cost effective thing to do is just get another 670.

The game needs to have SLI support to benefit from a second card tho right?

It seems like the going rate for a second hand 670 is around £130-£140.

I went seconhand for my 780, iirc i sold the 670's for £150.00 and £130.00, second one was bought on here and wasn't a great clocker. Paid £300.00 for the 780.

I could if I wanted, Im just a bit scared about buying such an expensive card, when DX12 is not really that far off, and also new Nvidia 800 series by the end of the year?

How far off is DX12? I haven't kept up with the latest news, but is it set to shake things up that much?

The rumour is that all current Nvidia cards will support DX12.... but this is just rumours at the moment.

I also read that the first cards to fully support DX12 from Nvidia will be the 800 series.

If you are in two minds what to do go and must upgrade then go with the cheapest option.

If not wait for the 8xx series.

Question you need to ask yourself is the 670 playing games how I like em ?

I've been dong a little bit of googling, and am I right in thinking the 780 is about 25% faster than a 670?

No, more like 20% slower from what I have been looking at

670 SLI matches 690 and 780ti speeds

VRAM is more on the 780 but this doesnt seem to play any part at the moment anyway

e.g. (from my VRAM thread)

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18598706

just had similar results in the Valley benchmark.

single 670 - 990 (23.7fps)
SLi - 2052 (49.0fps)

Ultra settings, 8xAA, 2560x1440

I'm just going to get another 670 for SLI instead of a 780. The only other thing I would have done would have been to get 2 x 780 classified for £500, sell one for ~£280, sell my 670 for ~£130 - meaning the upgrade would have cost me £90. However they were not guaranteed to sell and it would have been a load of hassle. For me another 670 is the way to go

At 1920x1200, I'd stick a second GTX670 in.

My only hesitation is that you have a windforce version. That type of cooler can be a major pain for SLI. I had a pair of GTX470 SOCs before going 670 SLI, and the fan design and MB spacing mean't that the top card would cook too much.

For SLI I'd recommend blower style coolers.

What board do you own and whats the spacing like on it? Mine were ran in an asus p8 z77 v pro and the board in sig. The former had a better gap but temps on both setups werent too bad.

I went from dual 7950s to a 780 (so a similar move) and I was more than happy with the outcome.

Dunno how much that will help lol.
