670 vs 780... again!

Well I finally caved after an EVGA 780 Superclocked was on offer on a competitors site.

Less power drawer and less heat for sure and can sell off my 670's to fund it.

Just been looking at some benchmarks for AC4 and a few others. It seems a 690 generally scores higher than a 780. So maybe going SLI was the right choice after all.

Post your results (bench and games) when your other 670 arrives, mine is arriving in the next few days. Would be interesting to compare results against a 690, 780, 780ti and 290.

Will test 1080p and 1440p. Really see if 2gb VRAM limits 1440p instead of all talk

My plan at the moment is when the new card arrives, I am just going to remove the current card and put the new one in, just to make sure it's running latest bios.

Swapping like for like without uninstalling drivers, shouldnt cause any issues right?

My little old 2gb cards running BF4 @1600p with max settings, check the FPS.

Unfortunately I seem to have captured the exact moment my soldier is getting killed lol.:D:cool:
how did you get fraps to run?

Im doing the same, remove current card and drop in new one to make sure its working, no coin whine etc. then drop current card in slot below

No issues from what i have read with drivers (as long as the ram is the same on both cards)

Ok, hopefully gonna run some benchmarks on my system tonight while I still have the 670's installed and then test again once the EVGA 780 arrives. (although it might be Monday before I can test)

Hope to benchmark the following for comparison (as long as they allow SLI to work)

Heaven
Valley
3DMark
Sniper Elite v2
Batman: Arkham Origins
FFXIV
Hitman: Absolution
Tomb Raider

Will post results up as soon as I get them all finished

Why did you upgrade from 670s to 780? Less heat/power or going 780 SLI in future?

Bit of both tbh.

670's are great cards but this PC is in a small room and heat is a problem, even with a fan and windows. Add in my NAS too, plus 3 monitors it can get a little toasty.

May go SLI again, but we'll see and I have some folks who'll want a good deal on a 670 too

The only bench results i have comparing 670 sli and 780 are from heaven 4.

780.
Score 1555, GPU 780 @1189/1652, CPU 4770k @4.5, setter

670 sli.
Score 1850, GPU 670 @1267/1228/1753, CPU 3770k @4.5, setter

The 670's i had were pretty ok clockers, 780 is a bit of a poor one. Below is a result from the 670's at stock with a stock speed 3570k.

Score 1646, GPU 670 @1189/1150/1502, CPU 3570k @3.8, setter

Cpu doesnt make an awful difference in this bench, but clocking the cards nets a very nice gain. Tbh though for games i ran them at stock mostly.

Can't say I trust Heaven 4.

With Nvidia driver 314.07 its rock stable with current overclock (score 912 with GTX 670) With 335.23 it crashes about 7 tests in. Doesn't matter if I lower memory clocks, GPU or both

Maybe a Nvidia 335.23 driver issue?

Well I upgraded from 3x GTX 670 to 2x GTX 780 and then 3x GTX 780.

I was impressed with the fact that 2x GTX 780 (reference) was 1-2% faster than my 3x GTX670's ! I hadn't seen that coming !.

Get 2x 780 in SLi and you're in for a great ride :D

Send £600 my way and I will!

Its cost me £130 for a 670 which should hold me out at 1440p no AA for a couple more years I think

Why didn't you go 780Ti SLI?

I just need some next gen games to come out now to test the computer. Have been messing about with BF4 today still on a single 670 and at 1200p it's already so smooth.

The only time I saw slow down, was once, when a load of stuff was going on and a helicopter crashed in the middle of us and caused a massive explosion. That S L O W E D down for a few seconds. But I have only every seen that once, since the game launched.

Gonna have to fire up Metro last light and Crysis 3 to stretch it's legs a bit once I get the second 670.

---

Also currently my pc gets, minimums of 25fps in Sleeping Dogs and minimums of 40 in Batman Origins with maxed out settings.

I didnt really notice any slowdown in Sleeping Dogs.

The only games that made my PC cry a little was Metro Last Light and Crysis 3.

(I remember playing the first two Batman games on my 5870. That was horrible!)
